Great post Ani; I only disagree with this last point....I don't want them coming and buying in MY neighborhood, since when the house goes into foreclosure they'll lower MY property values (have one down the street listed for at least 30K lower than it should be......)

Yes, you are right. We don't need more foreclosures.
I hope people who are getting laid off here can find other jobs or were lucky enuff to have low or no mortgages. I am so concerned about everyone who is ALREADY HERE.
EM's advice is on target - if people have a steady job elsewhere, DO NOT COME HERE. As CHESNEY said . . . this is not the land of opportunity right now.
Of course, if someone wants to come and start a new business . . . this might be a great time (depending on what sector) - as we have such a talented workforce . . . we would appreciate more job opps. My caveat is: Don't come unless you are fully capitalized, LOL!!!!!!

Excellent post Ani. We speak about on CD all the time, but people still come with hope, which later turns into doubt. I came here a little over a year, but I had a job lined up. No way would I have left NYC with teen daughter with my savings only. I was three months into my job in and they had a layoff, that was so scary. So far, I survived 3 layoffs within the firm. This was the first time in history that the firm had a layoff. My advice to everyone is that if you are employed, stay at your job until the market has an upswing. It would be a long time before we will see the market bounce back.
Please yield to the advice of the people on the forum.

Firstly it's funny, some people seem to be in la la land as to what our economy is going through. It's like HELLO, do you not realize there are massive layoffs going on around the country and companies going bankrupt? People are losing their shirts!
The other thing is, ever since I graduated college in 2001 (after the dotcom bust), it seems to have gotten harder and harder to get a job. Why does everyone think it'll be easier somewhere else?
I guess sometimes people have a hope, if they go to a new place, it'll be better than where they are now. But don't realize that THEY are still the same person and just up and moving won't automatically make it better.

well gee, I guess I'll swim upstream one more time....
ani, I definitely agree with the overall message you are trying to send, it is clearly one of good intention to people looking to move here with less than desirable situations. however, I would like to see some citations from posts with the "accusations" you claim people are making. now maybe I have simply stopped reading the "I'm looking to move to charlotte with no money, no job, and nowhere to live, do u think that's a good idea?" post, but from the one's I've read, although ludicrous, I don't recall seeing the accusatory tone that you're referencing, where people get defensive and start blaming you for "being southern" or for "not wanting northerners coming here".
Like I said, I could be, and most likely am wrong, but I'd like to see quotes from posts backing your claim.

I would have only moved here as well with at least one person having a job lined up. Actually, I stayed in MD selling the house and continuing to work while dh was here in Monroe/Indian Trail working his new job. After moving and getting settled I did get a job after just one month of looking but that was January 2007, things have so changed since then. I cannot believe how much the economy here in Charlotte has changed since we moved here in 2006. I agree wholeheartedly with Ani as hubby was with that company 1 1/2 years before being laid off. Even if you do secure a job, don't think it is set in stone because in this economy, nobody is safe. Well I am at least. My immediate team alone needs to hire 25 people by December, the entire CBO needs to hire about 140 before next May. So if you can do medical billing, we are looking.

eman, no offense, but none of us have the time to go back and site examples for you for pete's sake! We spend as much spare time as we can manage helping people here - all regulars know the kind of posts Ani is talking about! I could even list poster names for you - which I won't do so as not to embarrass anyone. But trust me, I remember some of those names and what has happened to them after coming here just expecting the job would be found - and it ain't pretty.

I'm not offended loves, but you do need to back your claims in your posts. just seems like some people ("the regulars" as you call them) don't have to follow the rules and post credible links, where others do. In other words, according to the TOS, I'm not supposed to come on this site and say something like, "city-data website is going public, announcing IPO" without posting a link to the source of that info. I guarantee the first response to that would be a request to post links to the news site where this info can be backed up. I'm not defending the poster or person who comes here with no job or no money and then complains about it. as I originally stated, I think it's idiotic for anyone to move somewhere with no money, no job, etc... What I AM saying is, show me the threads where ani is claiming posters defended moving here with no money/no job by saying things like "You all are not welcoming" or "Oh, Southerners. You just don't want newcomers there." Back up the thread, that's all I'm saying.
Oh, and I do beg to differ, you clearly do have ample time on your hands with repetitive posts like this one.
