Yes. I just graduated from college before I moved down here. It was cheaper, I thought to just give my dad a check for the 53 dollars he was paying for the insurance on my car. But since everyone thinks that switching before I take my driver's test is the way to go I will call my State Farm agent.

I got my license renewed in March of 2008, it expires March of 2015. It will cost more, so I would call and make sure you have enough cash or have instate/local checks.

Here's a "favourite" question on the driver's license test...

"When it snows, do you use...A) snow tires B) chains C) studs" (may not be an exact quote, but, you have the picture)

When I moved here and got to that question, I thought that it was a trick question. Chains & studs are illegal in IL. So, I chose "A" snow tires. Final Answer.

or so I thought.

After arguing extensively, I lost that question. The "correct" answer is chains. That is something that I am still amazed over. I have never, in my life, used chains when driving in the snow (and I have driven in some pretty deep snow) nor have I ever known anyone under the age of 70 to do so. That is just a weird one.....

They won't take credit cards?

Rxdiva - let me know how it goes (and where you go to, since we're in the same 'hood) - we need to go get our licenses and tags sometime soon (especially considering we've been here almost 3 months).

I second getting insurance down here. It is much cheaper. I also think you need to have insurance in the state that you register your car.

Companies have to be licensed by the state's Department of Insurance to provide insurance to North Carolinians. Some are, and some aren't. The company can be located out-of-state, but they have to have DOI's approval to sell policies within the state.

Tober-- will let you know. I made an appointment to see my State Farm guy on Thursday. Probably won't bother going to the DMV till the beginning of November now...save myself the frustration of the end-of-the-month at the DMV lines.
