My A/C is broken so I pretty much always drive with the windows down!

We call that "260 Air Conditioning":
Roll the 2 windows down and drive 60 miles an hour!

I was not referring to wind draft but you do consume more gas when the air condition motor is running it does pull more on the engine

I only remember to put my window down when I see someone else with their window down.

Not on the highway. Your car consumes a slight more amount of gas if the air conditioner is on, but on the highway, that increase is actually less than the extra your car has to work to keep you at the same speed because of wind drag. So, with your windows down on the highway, you consume more gas with the windows down and the air off than if you have the windows up and the air on.
