Vet recommendations in South End/Uptown area
I just adopted a dog from a rescue a week ago and I need to take him to a vet for an initial check-up. Do you have any recommendations that are very close to Uptown/South End?

Well...I've been going to Long Animal Hospital on S. Blvd and while I thought the care was good, it was extremely overpriced. One time my bill was $300 for a checkup with annual meds!! Yikes. I wouldn't recommend them if money is an issue.

Bummer about that vet bill! We take our dog to Long Animal Hospital for his routine care, including annual meds, and we didn't come close to hitting $300.

You get what you pay for. We were going to Banfield, but they were giving us what we thought was heartworm preventative and turned out to be flea/tick meds! They said "oh well, it will prevent mosquitos too, so they can't get heartworm." NOT. TRUE.
We paid maybe half of what we do at Long Animal Hospital. So far, I've taken my two cats and two dogs there, and they've been treated like royalty. They will be honest about what the animals actually need, and won't sell you something they don't. Very knowledgable, and passionate people.
I take the dogs together and their annual is $280 combined, with a years worth of heartworm included. My cats (kittens, size of small, bounding elephants) had their deworming/check-up/kitten shots and it was $220 for the two of them. $500 a year to keep four animals in good health is a *steal* to me.

Ok, so outside of cost, it sounds like three votes for Long Animal Hospital. Thanks everyone!

Actually, make that four - I was going to recommend them earlier but got side-tracked

Cool, I just made an appointment with them. For reference, they said the office visit would be no more than $45. Any additional cost would be depending on any medical condition, medicine, etc.
Thanks for everyone's help!
