Heck to be honest. I just want a grocery store. Any news on that Bloom? Whoever plants the first grocery store is going to be very rich..lol I figured that thing would be up and running by now, they must be having some issues with the land?

Yes, it's more than a year ago that they announced Bloom would open (there was a two page article in the Observer)...

The vote for the Basketball Court can be found by going to (berewickhoa.com) and clicking Moderator cut: please do not post private information on a forum It looks like it sets a cookie on your PC so you can only vote once per IP address. The voting is open throughout the month of February.

I'm pretty sure the slip (a small blue piece of paper) was placed in the newspaper bin below your actual mailbox so you may have missed it or inadvertantly thrown it out.

It would seem to me not a good idea to post information on a message board on how to log in to a private site, even one that has such a simple password.

I never received such a slip nor inadvertantly threw it out, but I appreciate the information on the vote. Why is there a vote to remove the basketball courts?

I'm not positive, but I think it may have to do with all the people that were coming from other neighborhoods to use it. I've heard that the cops had been called in several times to remove people that weren't supposed to be there. Personally, I wish they'd put tennis courts there instead.

That is not a good reason to me. They could easily put a fence up that requires use of the access card like the one on the workout room. It seems just as cost effective and less extreme.

In today's Neighbors of Southern Mecklenburg section of the Observer, Kirsten Valle writes that site work will begin on the new Bloom shopping center in May. Opening is expected during the second quarter of 2009.

This is not the Berewick Town Center. It's north of I-485 on the west side of Steele Creek Road.

Byrum's General Store (New Page 1) is not part of the deal and will remain for the immediate future. (I'd expect the fire station to remain, too.) Two historic residences on the site will be moved. The current Dixie River Road will be realigned, probably to liine up with Shopton Road at Steele Creek Road, and renamed Berewick Commons Parkway. This will happen "soon."

Bloom is owned by Food Lion and is more upscale than Food Lion stores.

Here's the article: Charlotte Observer | 02/10/2008 | Historic store will stay for now

It looks like the county is getting ready to stat moving on the Berewick District Park. Apparently the money was there. It just took time to revise their plans after realizing the terrain was rougher than they thought. They won't be able to include as many facilities as they'd hoped because too many gullies are in the way.

They also were waiting on CMS to start moving on the elementary school that'll also be on this property. Funding for the school will come from last year's bond & it should open in fall 2009.

What's the schedule? How many ball fields, shelters, etc. are planned? We'll have to come to the workshop to find out. They'll have archetectural renderings for viewing & more information at the meeting.

The park is on the north side of Berewick. You can see it on the Berewick Master Plan here:

Berewick - Location. Location. Lifestyle.

Here's the notice the Parks Department sent out:

========================

“Southwest Park District Community Workshop”

Charlotte, NC: Berewick District Park Conceptual Design Community Workshop

The Southwest Park District Advisory Council in conjunction with the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department will host a community workshop to gain citizen input on the proposed Berewick District Park. The meeting will be held on April 3, 2008 6 at 6:30 PM at Berewick Manor House. The Berewick Manor House is located at 6625 Berewick Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28278.

For additional information please call Park and Recreation Southwest District Manager Andra’ Eaves at 704-529-1827 or Park Planner David Nelson at 704- 336-8455.

Phase One of Berewick Regional Park is expected to be open to the public in December 2009. This 38-acre section will include the new elementary school scheduled to open in August 2009, whose gym will also be a recreation center operated by the county Park & Rec Department, and three baseball/softball fields that also could be used for soccer or other sports.

The remaining parts of the 195-acre park will contain numerous athletic fields, but this part isn't funded and has no timeline.

Thanks for providing these updates.

As a resident of Berewick I agree with the quote at the end... the builders are busy telling their customers that a 195 acre park will be opening in 2009. It was a great selling point for them. It would have been nice if they had explained that it wasn't even fully funded (or even 50% funded).

I understand that this is not Berewick "Property" but I think the builders didn't think twice to mislead us. And along those lines, our builder sure made it seem like the park was part of berewick.
