Well, we are the owners of the Honda Civic that was infested with Yellow Sac Spiders. We just went through the mildest Minnesota winter ever and we have Yellow Sac babies hatching and coming out despite two times baking our car at the body shop last fall and fully detailing the car as well. Several people on this forum have been nice but several others have been - let's just say - not very nice. A random spider here or there - no big deal - a full infestation - not a great thing for the driver - distracting and serious - just like driving and talking on the cell phone or texting or drinking and driving. Luckily, it's an older car - and we give up. Ordering a new car and dumping that one. And - we are telling the dealer to sell it for parts and make sure to have parts power sprayed. If they can't do that, we'll just have it taken away somewhere....We are ethical enough to not dump this on somebody else. If anyone else has this problem - it is very intractable - good luck.
This thread has a lot of pages and am not sure if this was covered...
If I tried to bug bomb my car in the garage with the doors, windows, and trunk open, could I also have the hood open? I have been found pest under my hood, but am afraid to leave the hood open during a bomb due to the chemicals being flammable.
I feel so so badly for everyone this has happened to! I would become a hermit first, no way would I get back in a car infested with poisonous spiders!!!
Well....our exterminator said they need to be in the leaf litter and under the snow to survive - that the car will be too cold - will be the cold of the air temperature. We also read online that they will die if it gets below 11 celsius for them, which it definitely does here if they are not insulated by snow, etc.....
But, I am not sure they can't survive in the car in hibernation even if the care does get very cold. I read that yellow sacs overwinter at juveniles and I think they would die. But, what about the eggs? I feel like I don't trust anyone anymore because they all act like because they have never heard of such a thing that it can't possibly exist...a car infestation, yet we are living it. What should we do? Should we dump this car? We just went out tonight earlier and at just under 60 degrees, a baby yellow sac was crawling on the car. If we get another car, do we have to worry about it infesting that? One car has to be parked outside or did we just end up with a perfect storm - kid's car parked under and up against a pine tree? (Again, pine tree is now gone). I don't know what to do? Help!!! Entomologist at University of Minnesota was singularly unhelpful and skeptical.....so dang annoying when you have sacs in wheel wells and mirrors and spiders crawling on your car. Note what we have done so far: - baked the car twice at 170 degrees, 2 hrs. & then 3 hrs. and engine and wheel wells hi pressure sprayed. We could assume winter will get them but I don't believe anything anymore. Help!!
Maggie Girl, I would love to know how this ended for you please....
I live in CT and about a month ago, One night as we were leaving work, my co-worker/best friend asked me to just check the outside of her car and see if I saw any spiders there..... I saw one on the driver side, knocked it off and was just about to tell her she was all set, when I saw SIX of them on her passenger side... That night started the most terrifying experience ever.
Three nights later, i go to my car at night and there's 3 on my car!!! I guess her infestation traveled over to my car though she still had them all over hers!!
We spent hours trying to figure out what kind if spiders they were and weren't able to find them (which scared us even more - what if they were deadly??) -- we were looking for a "white" spider, not yellow....
My friend fumigated her car (DIY fumigator) and has not seen any spiders since (fingers crossed).... But for myself? I didn't have he ability to fumigate based on the instructions/requirements that Raid customer svc told me.... So I doused my car in Raid but was still seeing the sacs, spiders and strings of webs ups until about a week or so ago when the temperature dropped....
So what I really need to know from you is: did they return after winter for you????
So I have a 2015 traverse and have noticed the past two nights when getting off work it has had a number of spiders in and on it. Almost wrecked tonight because of one on the inside. I am terrified of spiders lol I also have 3 kids so this freaks me out. Is there anything a dealership would do? I just went and bought the biggest can of hairspray I could find and killed the ones I seen with it tonight but I have no clue what to do or where they are hiding at
Hi bugguy do you have a name for this aerosol spay you we're talking about?
Sorry, but Bugguy hasn't been on here in almost 5 years. Maybe someone else will pick this up and reply to you.
