Depending on where you live in Charlotte ... Penland Christmas Tree Farm is another cut your own Virginia Pine, White Pine, Leyland Cypress, Eastern Red Cedar and Carolina Sapphire. They also have fresh wreaths and fresh cut Fraser Fir trees ( in case one doesn't want to cut their own.) Also the ball and burlap trees if you want to plant the tree after the holidays. They are located off on Campbell Rd in York SC just off of Hwy 274 beyond the Catawba nuke plant.
Our son lives in Florida and always complains about the high price of Christmas trees. Last year he was home for Thanksgiving ... cut a tree down at Penland's and hauled it to his home in Florida.

It IS a great time of the year and the trees are one of my favorite parts too. If you ride up into Ashe county (near Sparta) you will just ooohhh and ahhhh over all the lovely Christmas tree farms along the road

It's all good, I didn't n ecessarily mean to get testy. sometimes it hard to convey the correct feelings in a forum..
We are definitely trying to get up to the mountains somewhere this year. we'll see how that works out since this is our first year here and we also just signed a purchase agreement for a house, so we are hardcore putting some more money aside...not to much room for extras...lol
Sunny, lmao, now that is exactly what our cat looks like when she is up to no good and you suprise her coming around the corner...
CarolinaWoman, that is priceless..I might need to tell my MIL to do when they are here for Thanksgiving week..

Not going to read the whole thread, but ANYONE in CHARLOTTE who wants a tree and does not drive up I-77, take 21, go up the hill, and have their own cut within 15 miles of SPARTA is a NUT. Do you hear me, a NUT!
It is so easy, it can be a morning, not even a day trip. It is easy. And one more thing, it is easy!!!!!! Depending on the time of day, you will see HUNDREDS of cars heading south with trees on top. You get a tree that is less expensive and is much more fresh.
It is the number one NO BRAINER on the earth. One more thing, it is easy!!!!!!
We have left Charlotte now, and are in New Bern, and we are gonna do it from here!!!!! All together now, because "IT IS EASY!!!"

I appreciate your enthusiasm, however not everyone is able to do so. We will have to 'settle' for a tree from one of the vendors here in the city. I will however keep it in mind for next year..

We will be heading to one of these tree farms for ours. Prices seem to range from $45 to $95.

Lil' Grandfather
We went to Lil' Grandfather in Laurel Springs last year and it was wonderful. Beautiful scenery, hayride, pony rides, Santa Claus, hot chocolate - you name it. My ideal tree in NC is the Frasier Fur, a beautiful fragrant classic shape Christmas tree. I think we paid under $50 for a 7 foot tree and had a great afternoon. (Bundle up though it is literally on top of a mountain and pretty windy at times). www.lilgrand.com

Wow! A Douglas Fir! Does anyone know someplace that sells or grows these regularly? I have been through all of the Christmas Tree growers websites and cant find one. I have been in NC for 6 years now and I miss Christmas trees that you can smell! The Fraser fir's have almost no scent unless you sit on top of them.

I was walking across a food lion store front and wow they do have huge trees.
Congrats and your timing of taking care of getting a tree before the after thanksgiving rush, that was a smart move.
I hope it gets lots of boxes underneath

I don't believe douglas firs grow here near here but you can get them at Lowes/home depot etc.
