Hi. We just moved into the Charlotte area a few months back. We are looking to buy a house now and were wondering if anybody had any input on the schools. We had heard that Fort Mill, Rock Hill public schools were better then ones in Charlotte. I was wondering if this was true as it appears the test scores are much higher in the Charlotte area. TIA

Go to the Schools that you are interested in seeing, don't research online info, it is skewed, IMHO...
We found that Cabarrus county has been good. My boys spent 2 days in a Mech Middle school, and I felt like I was breaking them out of prison when I moved them to Cabarrus..Again, just my opinion..Happy hunting..

We moved to Lincoln County to the North Lincoln School District. So far we are happy with the education. The school is small and personal. It has a very nice, warm and inviting atmosphere. My son is very happy here which really says a lot since he was having a very hard time with the idea of moving down to NC. It is in the country, which we like, but it's not for everyone.

Do you mean because they were strict or dangerous?

I think CMS schools are good, if you pick the right area to live in. The right areas have the better CMS schools, IMO.
Union County schools are good too, but we decided against it as the commute to downtown was crazy.
Also, we liked the magnet school system in CMS.
Fyi- we live in the north county area, and I have no regrets thus far.

I live in Matthews in the 28105 zip code area. Before that, we lived in South Charlotte in the 28270 zip code area. Two of my sons attended elementary and middle schools in these areas, and we are pleased with all of them. My youngest son really enjoyed Matthews Elementary, a wonderful school with the kindest, most caring principal I've ever met. Many of the teachers are veterans, and I love the way the students are able to walk to the firehouse for field trips and the community center for plays, drama lessons, etc. Now both of my boys are at Crestdale Middle School. So far, everything as worked out very well. The staff and teachers at Crestdale are very supportive and easy to contact, if necessary. A big indicator to me that the teachers are effective is that both my boys want to do well. Many opportunities are available for students to achieve their full potential, so if a child isn't succeeding, he/she can will be supported if they are willing to try. The Matthews community is also very supportive of its schools, which is important to me. My sons will be attending Butler High School in a few years, which has a good reputation and great community support. I have found that CMS schools really reflect the community in which they're part of, so if you find a good, caring community with active, positive citizens who have good family values (parents that parent), the schools will reflect these values as well. One thing I love about CMS in general in their "parent assist." This has been a great asset to me. Teachers list your child's assignments and grades on-line (privately), and you can use this to track your child's achievement. Really great!
