Have you removed all your electrical outlets so the kids won't stick anything in them, or do you teach them to leave the outlets alone????)

Why the heck didn't I think of that??? My kids hair is so damn frizzy and it's all my fault. All I had to do was remove the outlets or PUT COVERS ON THEM untill they were old enough to understand???? I feel even more guilty about my daughters charred fingers. Okay, I'll post the sign tomorrow. I dont want them to have frizzy hair and holes in them. Thanks for the help.

I've known the Hyatts' since I was a kid....they will rip you off and make you feel good about it! They have no integrity! Shooters Express is usually pretty expensive but you can sometimes deal with them and negotiate a better price. GunBroker.com is a great site to check prices, but I personally think your best buy can be made at one of the local Gun Shows if you can wait for them. They are usually every month or 2 at The Merchandise Mart on Independence Blvd. or at the Metrolina Fairground. There you'll find a lot of dealers competing for your dollar.

Do I own a gun? Nope. I own several!!!

Okay, I am only kidding. I choose not to own any guns because I have a five year old in the house. If it wasn't for my son, I would be heavily armed in my side of town. Having a gun can sometimes make a bad situation worse. I lost a childhood friend in Charlotte to a gun that he was playing with. He was only 13 years old and was shot by his own gun by accident. Having a gun won't prevent a shoot out with a home invader. It might cause the shoot out however. Most thugs are only interested in money. Most don't want murder on their hands. I support the right to own guns. I just don't want one under the same roof with my kid even if it is locked up. The odds of him finding daddy's gun is much higher than the odds of him seeing a home invader's gun. Besides, if I am staring at some thug's gun, I am not going to have time to grab mine anyway. It would be locked up. I am better off hiding in a closet and calling the cops from the cell phone. That is what I did the last time my alarm went off and it worked like a charm. My son feel asleep in the closet as we waited and had no clue what had happened. Come to find out, it was an alarm malfunction and nothing else. At 1 a.m., I chose to play it safe and treated the alarm like it were real. Common sense is better than a gun I think.

Urban, your position is respectable. You claim that you don't want to have one with kids in the house and do not go on to make any assumptions about other people. While I am not a big fan of hide and wait for the police to make their way to me, that is your choice.

Where I have a huge problem, and this is not directed at anyone in particular, is when people want only the police to have guns.

I will agree that not everyone needs to have a gun.

I disagree with a general disarming of the public to make someone else feel better about their beliefs. I disagree with the comment about "this is why the police are here." They are NOT here. They are patrolling, doing paperork, arresting people. All somewhere else. If the police were HERE, certainly no one would ever break into my house.

You are a fool if you think disarming the public will make things safer for everyone. With the criminal society that we have, things would get much, much worse.

To be fair, I didn't get it until the third time our home was broken into. Anyone who is for outlawing guns entirely needs to live in a bad area for a while. And even then, a big strong guy probably isn't going to feel as threatened as a younger woman. To me, my .22 is a safety blanket. I couldn't cause too much damage with it, but hell, at least I've got something.

(though I'm thinking about getting one of those maglight-rape siren-tazer combos. so. cool.)
Good for you. If I were you, I would trade that 22 caliber for at least a 32 caliber. In some cases, a 22 might just ***** off the assailant or burglar. I would advise that if you keep the 22, do lots of target practice so you can get enough hits in your criminal to stop him. With a 22, you might have to shoot him five or six times until you hit a vital spot or get the blood flowing enough to get the brain to cease functioning. Good luck and have a nice day. Peace!

3 times? Wow! I'm not the only one with horrible luck.

You may not do major damage with a .22, but the hospital is supposed to report all gun shot victims. It doesn't matter what calibre it is, they're gonna end up in the hospital one way or the other.

We may know each other. I have known Larry since the 60s. I will agree that they seem to be extremely expensive. I just went through the conceiled liscense course there and looked around. Great selection, but really high. I agree that the fairground is probably the best place.

Can you explain the meaning of this paragraph then. Excuse me for asking but I am too dense to understand your advanced intellect. Thank you in advance.

The 2nd Amendment of the Constituition has been interpreted by the Supreme Court to be an INDIVIDUAL RIGHT under the recent Heller decision. In the U.S. what the SCOTUS rules determines the meaning of the language in the Constitution.

Quote:
District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. ___ (2008) is a landmark legal case in which the Supreme Court of the United States held that the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects an individual's right to possess a firearm for private use. It was the first Supreme Court case in United States history to directly address whether the right to keep and bear arms is a right of individuals or a collective right that applies only to state-regulated militias.

Anyone who thinks if you take away the rights of citizens to own guns that you'll then live in a safer environment is just kidding themselves. Criminals will always find a way to have them while the law abiding citizen becomes a sitting duck.

Look at what is happening in London, England for example. Even the cops don't carry guns there and their crime is thru the roof. According to the British government, the violent crime rate in the London area is 3,400 per 100,000. The violent crime rate in Washington, D.C., one of our most crime-ridden cities, is 1,459 per 100,000. That's right. London, England, has more than twice the violent crime of our own crime capital. In addition, total crime rates for London have been estimated at about 7 TIMES those of New York for a slightly smaller population.

So instead of guns, knives have become the weapon of choice across the pond. The BBC reports that knife injuries are an "epidemic".

Anybody want to call for a ban on knives??

I sent you a private message. I too took the CCW class at Hyatt's with Dan Starks. I'm a native Charlottean and grew up on the west side when it was still a nice safe area!
