Default Neighborhood looking to become gated!

Our neighborhoodis looking to become gated. Before anyone jumps on the rich or snob band wagon our neighborhood isa nice mix of houses ranging between 200k-500k in value.

We are researching and getting all the info on the subject. Would anyone know the process with the city. Who do we call ect....

Thankyou for your time in advance.

Learn the facts about ownership and maintenance of utilities and roads. While I'm not 100% sure about Charlotte's policies, it is common practice for neighborhoods wishing to go gated to take over ownership of everything...meaning when it breaks or needs maintenance, it's cmpletely up to the homeowners. A simple pothole in the road can be several thousand dollars while a major one could easily be a few ten thousand. A water or sewer line repair is guaranteed to be tens of thousands. Let's not forget the maintenance and repair costs of the gate itself. How many times have you been to an apartment complex or neighborhood where the gate is boken? Better yet, how many times have you seen someone tailgate in--or should I ask, how many times have you done it?!

Gated communities provide a very false sense of security and tons of headaches for the residents when they need public service that the rest of the city gets for free.

To answer your question though, I'd start with the land development department.

Metallisteve said it well. No offense, but I think you need a lot more high rollers than $500K homes for gated to work. But, get the facts, early.

If you have a gated community, garbage trucks, school buses etc cannot come in and that will be a huge inconvenience for all.
