Oddly enough, it is not unusual that it is cheaper to fly than drive (unless you book holidays or Spring break, etc) Also, all that drive time, wear and tear and traffic just arent worth it at that price!! (Besides, we can use the business LOL)

I just booked flight to Dublin from Charlotte - $430 return. Same flight in the summer months will be $1200.

Yeah, I'm thinking three tanks of gas and wear and tear would cost me more. I'm going alone so the ride would get boreing towards the end. I do love driving long trips, but not for such a short stay.
I'm looking forward to catching up with alot of my brother's old friends that I haven't seen in over a decade. His girlfriend is still not sure how she's going to pull off the "surprise" part but everything else is planned. It's in a couple of weeks, so she better think of something quick

Brian, I'll go look for that thread.

It sounds like you are going to have a great time!!!!!!! Be careful with the surprise though. My sister and I surprised our mom once, we thought she was going to have a heart attack. Have fun!!!

The last time I did that drive I did it solo. Started about 9 pm from Kannapolis and got to Seaside Heights about 7 in the morning. I had to wait a few hours for the movers to get to the storage facility in Brick. They left about 2:30, I grabbed something quick at a Taco Bell on 37 right afterwards and got started on the way back about 3 in the afternoon. Rolled back into Kannapolis about 1:45 in the morning. It amount to something like 1,400 miles worth of driving and no sleep. I walked around in a semi fog for a couple of days afterward.

The worst was I got back in at quarter to two in the morning and got to sleep shortly afterwards. About 9 that morning I get a call from the movers saying that they're ahead of schedule and can be at our place around noon. My first instinct was to say, "You've got to be f***ing kidding me" because all I wanted to do was crash. Instead we wound up saying "Okay, no problem". All I wanted to do was rest and here I was, a few hours later, lugging things into place and opening up boxes in an attempt to get as much done in as short a time as possible.

You went up and back without sleeping!!! I could never do that! I could certainly do the ride solo, but not that quickly. I've been dragging my kids around since they were born so they travel nicely. We can get to Maryland without stopping and no complaints. Any longer than that and it has to be a sit down meal and leg stretch kind of break.

If I travel with my wife we usually have to stop off somewhere to sit down for a bite. If it's just me I just want to get to where I have to be, so I'll bring stuff to eat and drink while I'm driving and leave my leg stretches for the gas stops. I had my satellite radio for some Opie and Anthony and a few CD's.

Ain't no way I'm doing that again though.
