Great tune but I was always more partial to Calypso, I'd Rather Be a Cowboy (Lady's Chains), and Wild Montana Skies.
One thing about John Denver is that he never wrote a song in a minor key (which is rare, considering his catalog, too). He always seemed to use the major to convey optimism. Worked out pretty well.

I just like the appropriateness of this while going through the tunnels & around the curves of the turnpike, not too far from the WV border.

Favorite road songs.
I like Take it to the Limit, Eagles
If I'm thinking Eagles and road songs, I'm thinking "Take It Easy" or "Already Gone". Those are a couple of windows down road songs. "Take it to the Limit" is kinda like "Ol' 55"...a more relaxing type of song.

I equate Take it to the Limit w/ driving the Porsche I had at the time the song was released. In my mind, I re-interpreted the phrase "take it to the limit" as . . . flooring that baby, Hee Hee.
Had to add . . . favorite time for a drive was sunset, and the words "all alone at the end of the evening, when the white lights have faded to grey . . . " So there I would be, at sunset, ruminating about my chaotic life . . .
I agree w/ you and Brian - Take it easy is a terrific driving song. In fact, the Eagles in general are always enjoyable while driving. And I also listen to a lot of Don Henley.
Like you, when driving back and forth from KS to NC . . . I would create my own song lists . . . I wonder if I could dig any of those up. It would be fun to see what all I had on them.

Ohhhh...this is one of my favorite dusk driving songs...
I remember driving up route 9 in New Jersey to pick up something from a nearby Dunkin' Donuts on a Saturday evening and popping the CD in my car. When you got to this spot just after route 34 blended into route 9, you'd hit the instrumental portion right around the 2:45 mark and you'd get that last glimpse of sun just beyond the highway and strip malls. Every time I hear this song, particularly that part I get flashbacked to that time and...
Well...enough of that.
