Jackson Browne's "Runnin' on Empty"...another great driving song.

I could have fun with a list like this

YouTube - Time Passages

I remember driving up route 9 in New Jersey to pick up something from a nearby Dunkin' Donuts on a Saturday evening and popping the CD in my car. When you got to this spot just after route 34 blended into route 9, you'd hit the instrumental portion right around the 2:45 mark and you'd get that last glimpse of sun just beyond the highway and strip malls. Every time I hear this song, particularly that part I get flashbacked to that time and...

Well...enough of that.
I like Al Stewart for city driving.

Some songs just seem to lend themselves better to city driving rather than long-haul driving.

Yep, and for some reason they tend to not be chaotic sounding songs either. I think it's just like a counter balance kind of thing. Y

You get some songs that are perfect for areas or time of day. Perfect example...Van Morrison..."Cleaning Windows"..."Tupelo Honey"..."Crazy Love"...awesome for dusk.

Elton John's "Philadelphia Freedom" was always great going to Philly for a concert or sporting event. You can put "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" for dusk driving. A lot of Springsteen's "Wild, Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle" is perfect for driving around New Jersey, particularly "Rosalita", yet his "New York City Serenade" off of that same album is perfect for Manhattan driving.

Night time - Gordon Lightfoot - Carefree Highway. This one is personal - "Her name was Ann" and relates to a very specific time in my life wh/ I like to review now and then by listening to this song.
