I haven't played Wallyball for years. Maybe some gym with a racquetball court would let it be used for wallyball.
Wallyball (known in some places as rebound volleyball) is a fast-paced sport that was invented by Joe Garcia in 1979 and originally called "ricochet ball." The word "wallyball" is a portmanteau of the words "wall" and "volleyball". Indeed, wallyball is very similar to volleyball. However, wallyball is played indoors, and that is what makes it most popular in the Midwest and Eastern United States, where cold winter weather drives people indoors.
I know there's a few Facebook groups for wallyball where you might be able to hook up with some people. (if you're on Facebook.) I remember seeing a Raleigh-Durham chapter out there, but I don't remember a Charlotte one.
I called around to some gyms, they either have not heard of it or think I said Volleyball. You would probably need a membership to play in those places anyway. I couldn't find any free racquetball courts that would be my only other idea. Unless I tore out part of my house and converted it into a court. But my wife wouldn't probably wouldn't be down with that.
Oh, man, I haven't played that in over 15 years! I had forgotten all about that. You brought back some good memories of being single (after the day I have had with my own children, I am enjoying memories of pre-kids!!!! )
I've only played Wallyball once in my life, but it was the best time!
I was recently reminded of it when I checked out the Racquetball court at the local YMCA and saw the holes in the walls where the net could be installed. I dismissed the thought of asking if they had a net, thinking nobody else would know what the game was.
I'll have to ask if they'd offer Wallyball some nights.
Man, I play wallyball, but it is a little different...
Go to walmart, get a ridiculously large ball that bounces, and hit it to your buddy across an aisle until someone kicks you out.
Sounds like how we played in college.
But we would start by riding the bikes around the store for a warm-up.
