Whenever I drive through Dilworth, South Park or Myers Park, I notice a number of trees have this band around the trunk. It's about 6 inches wide and stapled to the trunk about 5 feet from the ground.

I'm guessing that this is for some type of insect problem and I'm very curious as to how it works. If it's for insects, what kind?

Can somebody tell me what this is for, please.
Thanks!!!

The bands are to stop the dreaded cankerworm. They also did some aeriel spraying back in the spring (if I remember correctly). Here's an article for you.
