I hope you guys are able to get the heat fixed up quick...it's supposed to be cold the next few nights.

We like the heated mattress covers instead of the blankets but both will work to keep you warm. When I was a kid all we had was a wood stove and blower but my room was way at the back of the house and never got any heat. I used to keep a hairdryer by my bed and if the cold woke me up at night I would blow some hot air under the covers (Don't keep it running, just blow some warm air in and then turn it off) and sleep for a few more hours.

A few of you have mentioned the 'lukewarm' air coming from the registers and I wondered if you are familiar with heat pumps rather than furnace heat. Heat pumps generally don't put out 'warm' air like a furnace (unless the electric heat strips are running), it may only be a few degrees warmer than the thermostat setting and it may run for a longer time to warm the house, whereas a furnace puts out much warmer air, warm to the touch, and will warm up the house much faster. It takes some time getting used to the difference and many people just think a heat pump isn't working because the air feels cool coming from the register.

I that makes sense. I just thought I remembered feeling much warmer air last year. But I don't turn it on enough to remember it all the time.

Also, I didn't smell a burning smell this year when I kicked it on for the first time. Is that a heat pump thing as well?
