I have posted my resume on every website possible and I got no response from any of them. It is hard for me because I want to go back to school. that is one of the reasons that we are moving to Charlotte. So I started following up and I found I got better responses when I hounded the hiring managers and now I am in the works for a position in Huntersville at the Verizon Wireless Store. I have had one phone interview and I am waiting for my second interview. Hopefully I will hear something this week. Hang in there it is tough my wife and I are trying to keep our spirits up. We have a house on the market and I know it is hard to tell a new employer that you don’t know when you can move. But I feel if they need you bad enough then they will wait and hire you.
What is very frustrating is that we don't own a home, so realistically it wouldn't cost the employer a whole lot of $$ to relo us to NC. Granted we come from CA, but we don't have to worry about a home to sell, and have minimal furnishings (we are trying to get rid of a lot of stuff and just get it when we get there).
So, if you are going to rent a house in NC, how in the world do you move across the country and convince a landlord to rent you a home when you haven't secured your job yet? And the reason you haven't secured the job yet is because potential employers are leary of out of state applicants? Ugh, very, very frustrating.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. And I agree, let's keep this on page 1 as I'm sure lots of people have input on this.
We are finding it tough too because we cannot afford to move without the promise of a job. We don't even care if dh has to head down before us if the house hasn't sold. I agree with all said, I can see employers perspectives but know firsthand what it is like to want something like this so badly and having the major thing like a job be the "be all, end all" of it. Good luck everyone on the SS Employment Search!

Great! Does this mean I can come in for a buddy discount?
I'm also having a difficult time finding a job and I've been here over a year now. I'm only looking for part time and I've circulated my resume everywhere but so far.....nothing. All I can do is keep trying and hopefully something will open up somewhere. Good luck to you too.
Its tough even when you live here & your looking for a job (& have lived here for yrs). I work in CSR but I have a masters degree in Criminology. The way I got my job? Through a temp agency. I'm willing to move- always have been. But people aren't hiring. I didn't picture myself 3yrs ago (when I graduated from my Master's program) working as a CSR. I thought I'd have a job in my field or something close to my field.
On the front page of the Sunday Charlotte Observer is an article: New teachers' lesson: The jobs are here
"North Carolina needs 11,000 new teachers each year, but only 3,000 graduate from state programs"
So, all qualified teachers-come to NC-we need you!
I moved here in November - 20 years in property management - degreed professional - have to leave - cannot get a job - salaries very low - very tight market - fax - email -fax - email - no one calls - agencies don't call - very disappointing.
