My Water Bill in Charlotte

Hmmmm..........I'm in Lancaster Co. SC (Sun City) and our bill was $59 last month. I am the only one living here, little under 2000sf, and last month I was only here for 2 weeks. I also don't work, so don't have as much laundry, plus the fact that I have a front loader that doesn't use as much. We do have an irrigation system, so I'm looking forward to seeing what it is since we turned that off. I don't wash any cars and only run the dishwasher maybe twice a week.

Sounds like we are really getting ripped off big time.

I wonder if the charges vary by the part of Charlotte you live in? We don't irrigate or wash the cars here at the house. I have no idea why the storm water charge would be so high.

The only thing I can think of is that my house is right off the golf coarse which is watered a lot. Maybe we are paying for that runoff?

My water bill is very similar to Flying Scotman's....and, there is only me, the dogs, the cat & the bird living here. The animals don't turn on the water much, though!

It's not a "rainfall tax"... use your noggins folks!

The Storm water fee pays for the storm water utility. You are charged based on the impervious area of your property... more impervious, more runoff, more infrastructure and maintenance required to repair attenuate and mitigate damages caused by storm water runoff.

The storm water fee is used to pay for flood-control projects, water quality projects, storm water infrastructure construction and maintenance and other requirements of our federal permit that permits the city to discharge storm water (which is regulated by the State at the direction of the feds under the authority of the Clean Water Act of 1972).
