My wife just got some tickets for a show at Ovens Auditorium.

Believe it or not after living here for almost 9 months, other than the airport, we've never been to Charlotte.

Can anyone tell me about the area, like how is parking and are there any good places to grab a bite and a beer before the show that are within walking distance of parking? Is it a safe area?

Thanks,

Mark

Honest answer eat before you go there, pay to park there and get out once show is over.

Ovens is on Independence Blvd. The road that runs parallel is Monroe Rd. There is a place on Monroe (about 8 blocks away-too far to walk & not safe crossing major roads) called LUPIES. It is one of the the local favorites. (I live close by in historic Elizabeth)

Really casual & everything is homemade- try the chili Mac- it is a plate of spahgetti with chili (ask for 1/2 & 1/2- thats half cincinnatti ,half texas chili). They are know for great burgers and veggie plates. It is always packed so go early. Great jukebox too!

I have been to shows at Ovens many times- you will be fine- it is very busy on event nights- just follow directions into the parking lot & go from there!

There was a place called Ovations right next to it. It was pretty nice and its within walking distance. The only problem is that I don't know if its still open. You should try calling them. But I would recommend you eat somewhere either in Uptown, or the 7th Street or Elizabeth Avenue areas. There's plenty of parking at Ovens and its very easy to get too from those places. You might want to try Mama Ricotta's on Kings Drive, or the Cajun Queen on 7th Street, or NoFo on Elizabeth Ave. These would be a quick drive to Ovens.
