Buying Sod NOW in Charlotte?
I am not crazy, promise! Here is the story: I am getting a puppy this month. A book I read recommended trying sod in his indoor kennel to help potty train him while I am at work (same texture/smell as the yard). Given it's December... where can I find a few squares of sod in the Charlotte area?? I have tried the given Lowe's / Home Depot. They think I am crazy.
Any help MUCH appreciated!

I got a 10 week old puppy back in April/Easter weekend and had never crated a puppy/dog before. A puppy/dog will not potty in his sleeping place, so I don't think I would really recommend the sod idea. We got him on a Friday and Monday was his first full day in his crate, I expected a mess when I came home and nothing! I had lined his crate with paper, which he loved to shred. But let me tell you, get that pup out the door quick! He had a couple accidents when I let him out he just couldn't hold it but it was on tile so no biggie. I am so glad potty training is over.

Call Super Sod in Pineville. You can get a 9 ft x 2 ft piece of sod for 4 bucks or so.
But seems like a gross idea to let the dog do #1 and #2 in his crate. Then they'll just waddle in it, etc.

Clarification
CLARIFICATION:
This is for the pups indoor KENNEL (heated space, concrete floor - 18'x8') not the pup's crate. I know the crate is his "den" and he won't use it for relief; however, with a full day of work, the sod concept was recommended by the breeder and was in several puplications he gave to me. It mimicks the feel of the outside and won't allow the smell to set into the concrete - which is near impossible to get out.
Any other recs would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

you have a 18'x8' kennel INSIDE your home? that you want to put sod in?
why not just keep the dog outside?

i've never heard of house training a dog like this.
never heard of creating an outside environment...on the inside.
how will this train the dog?
dogs will naturally want to "go" when they sniff grass...
so how will the dog learn to "go" outside...when you have grass inside his kennel...
how did the trainer explain this?

Got it, thanks for the clarification. I was thinking crate, will it be a large breed dog?

I did this to get info, not get beaten up on my puppy raising skills. Geez.
Since you all NEED to know: This is a VERY EXPENSIVE - several thousand dollars - large breed dog. He won't be left outside - have you seen what happens to dogs left outside - google it. People steal them, hurt them, etc. Furthermore, what person leaves an 8 week old pup out in these temps in the middle of winter??
The breeder the pup is coming from is international. This isn't your stand run of the mill backyard hobby breeder. I trust this person and the recommendations - he has trained numerous dogs that have natl and internal titles - does your dog have this?? The pup has been exposed to a similar setting - indoor/outdoor - because that is how he lives prior to coming to me. You'd have to see it.
The indoor kennel is for use when I am at work 4 days a week. I can only have a pet walker come in once a day while I am away - this would leave the pup for 4.5 hours. The puppy cannot be expected to hold it that long. I will not leave a dog in a crate for all day. I don't believe this is condusive to his training. And, if you have ever tried to clean up #1 or #2 from concrete, you would know that concrete retains the smell very badly.
It was recommended to use a small patch of it (like 2'x2') rather than newspapers or puppy pads on top of tarp or plastic. Past puppies ate the pads and shreaded the papers. This is meant to be used while training the puppy, not long term. It's used, and removed as needed. But since dogs go where they smell grass - this is condisuve to potty training. Better than the couch, or the floor... it's still grass... same smell, same texture, etc.
There, let it go. This is what I am doing, and just because you haven't heard of it, doesn't make it wrong. If you don't want to give a recommendation to the posted question, then don't. I asked for where to get sod, not to critic how I raise my dog.
