Default Where can I buy a good country ham?

I need a way to get some good southern Country Ham up to Ohio for Christmas. I can pack it in a cooler. I'm a little nervous to attempt making one. It's kind of a surprise for my husband.

Any recommendations for a deli or restaurant that I can get one from? Thanks!

I specialize in this!!!

You can do a few things. In local grocery stores, they generally have a a few whole county hams near the cart that has the "sliced" and vacuum packaged products. You can go ibnto any Harris Teeter or Lowes.

There are also some very good "ham houses" in NC. Which all pretty much wil ship them to you from their website:

Welcome to Phillip Brothers Country Ham

Smithfield's Ham Shop (http://www.countrycuredhams.com/shop/ - broken link)

Please let me know if you need anything else

Jake Ryan, are the grocery store ones you speak of any good? I have big expectations to live up to b/c this man's country ham is always homemade. I just don't want it to be a disappointment to him.

SunnyKayak helped and posted a link for me earlier when I had a similar question.
I tried to post the link, but it didn't work. If you use the search function for "ham" there is one that I (cheesehead1) posted asking about local ham. It's for the NC General Store, which has locally produced food and goods. Best of luck! I love ham!!!

The link that Sunny posted was the goodness grows in NC website...

The hams from the grocery store won't compare to the ones on the sites I listed. The good thing about these sites which are LOCAL to NC and on the Goodness Grows website are that they will ship it wherever you want it to go so you don't have to carry it all the way to Ohio in your car.

I suggest you call the places on one of the sites, or order it online to have them ship it to your location.

Jake

Hi Pink,

If you're still checking this thread, there is now a food club that offers extremely high-quality, locally-grown food, including country ham. The club is called Know Your Farms. Just google it and you should find it. They're based in Charlotte.
