Monty's Seafood Grill was located in the shopping center at Johnston Rd and Ballantyne Commons Parkway close to Rite Aid. Never had a chance to go there myself but heard good things about the food.

It wasn't very good, I can see why not a lot of people go there.

Another independent bites the dust Yet larger chain restaurants that have been caught serving a cheaper fish than what they are calling it on the menu still thrives.

That whole lying on the menu thing w/ fish completely turned me off to eating anything but shrimp, trout, pink salmon or tuna steaks at a restaurant.
We are gonna see a lot of restaurants close in 2009 - all over the nation.

I saw that they were closing when I went by there today. I just moved to the Ballanytne area, and while I had not eaten there, I hate to see them close. That's now two closings in Ballantyne East of late.

I'm not so sure that chain restaurants vs. independents is high on the priority list for a Supreme Deity...
Having said that, I checked out their prices and thought they were too expensive for my personal tastes. I'd also heard lukewarm reviews of Monty's from coworkers.
I don't think that the big "chains" are threatening independent restaurants in Charlotte. I think that the ones who have closed lately, have closed for perfectly legitimate reasons: food that isn't impressive, mismanagement, etc. As you'll see from the Lorenzo's Pizzeria thread, if an independent restaurant owner opens with a great concept, great service and good prices, he or she will do pretty well.
