Mecklenburg County Animal Shelter is a GREAT place to adopt a puppy. You can usually get a purebreed dog there for a fraction of the cost of a puppy mill pup.
Petfinder.com is a good place to start. I know a few stores that sell puppies but I don't recommend getting a dog from them. Please don't buy from puppy mills!
Please support one of the animal shelters in the area! Surprisingly, they have a lot of pedigreed dogs! This time of year . . . not sure about puppies (altho my dear Scarlett was born in December). Please give a doggie a chance by adopting . . . our shelters are overflowing b/c people have abandoned pets when they lost their jobs . . . or were foreclosed on . . . Please check it out.
There are also lots of purebreed puppies on craigslist for free or for a small adoption fee. Many come with crates/toys/etc.
PLEASE before you do anything or make any decisions....do some research on the right breed, puppy mills and why they are so bad, vet care, spay/neuter costs, county liscencing, and any apartment/HOC restrictions. If you are getting a puppy you are taking on a BIG responsibility and you should educate yourself on what all is involved.
Let us know if you have questions or need advice, we'll be happy to help!
Why people want to spend hundreds of dollars in a bad economy for a puppy/puppy mill instead of adopting is beyond me.... you can adopt purebreds, and they're usually better behaved, if not already trained!
yes, adopt from a shelter!!!!!! my maximus pooch is THEEEEE best dog in the world.. well you know, i'm biased. but he is a WONDERFUL dog, and we got him when he was 5 months old. he's not a mix of 40 breeds either, just 2.. and good looking! nothing wrong with shelter dogs, they need love! =]
