Default House-sitting a house in Charlotte. Possible??

I am thinking (read just thinking about the problems associated with) placing someone in a house this Spring to house-sit for me.

I am closing on a house Jan. 8th. that will need a good deal of renovation that will take about 2 months. Someone I trust will be in the house daily and after the renovations are complete I will be "living" in the house. But I will be there only about 7-10 days a month and I am concerned about the obvious problems of an unoccupied house.I thought I would ask if any of you have had any experiences with a house-sitter?

I have a wealth of experiences with renters but never with a special type of arrangement such as this.
Would love to know how this situation worked for other people and I am especially interested in HOW it was made to be a positive experience.

TIA
John

I had a friend when I was in Atlanta who worked with several large real estate companies and was a house sitter.....lived in the houses of transferred exec's while on the market. There were several stipulations, no pets, no smoking, no stinky food. Keep kitchen and bath spotless but basically, she lived in a luxury home, for a small stipend to keep it occupied and "lived in look" so "wives" could see the house with furniture. She did this for several years. The furniture was staged...and she basically lived in a guest room so the master was spotless... but loved the opportunity.

Heck, if it weren't for my hairballs, I might consider it!!!

Hi John,
I've lived in charlotte for about 12 years. House sitting is a popular business here depending especially if you have pets. My kids go to Calvary and one of their teachers house sits and pet sits also. She usually stays in the house overnight sometimes and sometimes goes to her home. She has done some high end homes especially one house whose family was gone for the summer. What it entails from what she's told me is making sure the lights are on, her pets are fed, taking in the mail, checking the water, water the plants etc. She's got referrals if you are interested.
Its a good way to go but I hightly suggest you ask for a couple of referrals from that person you decide you want to house sit for you. Or go through an agency. But local referrals are better. Price is dependant on how much activity you want that person to do in the house while you are away.

Heartlander is on a distinguished road
Hi there Johnny, I'm a very active 65yr. young retired Industrial Electrician going to visit my son and daughter-in-law over in Indian Trail, Union Co., 1st 2 wks. of Nov.+? Will doing some add-on elect. options at their new home, scoping out the area for possible relocation from Ohio, biking, hiking, site-seeing hosted by his wife who's vice pres.-Merrill Lynch(B.O.A.). Spending the winter anywhere south of Ohio sounds tempting and useful. Have consulted with friends on home utility projects and elect. supplies. My son-in-law is a Fitter/welder/"plumber". Spent my life leaving things better than I found them and will bring resume' and ref's if you're interested in meeting while I'm in town. Extra time in the area would serve me well. It could be a win-win arrangement. Respectfully, Heartlander
