LNF and I are going to hit Charlotte on Monday for Pompeii. I've been there a bunch of times (to Charlotte) but she's never. Anything special we should see?

We're thinking of visiting that soda shop for lunch. I've seen people say "take the light rail" down. Is the LR station far from either place?

Where are you coming from? The light rail only runs from South of the city into uptown. Parking and driving in Charlotte is very easy so I would just drive into the city and pay to park at a garage. Not too much to see or do uptown except walk around, eat, and shop.

Not a trip that will take all day...except for the Pompeii exhibit.

Ok, I'll park. We're going to have to refeed after Pompeii. There used to be a Spanish restaurant in Pineville but I think that's long gone. It was really good, too.

There's a nice Parking Deck at Discovery Place so that makes it easy for
the Pompeii exhibit. And there are lots of places to eat on Tryon St that
right in front of D Place.

It's good you're going now to D Place as they're going to close for a year or so around the first of January. I had to go there last week and remove the antique radios I had on display in the ham radio center because they're getting ready to close it down.
Hopefully they'll make a place for us in the new museum...

Ron

The rates are better at 7th Street Station and it only two blocks down from Discovery Place.
Also check out the free bernstein bears orchestra at founders hall and it plays through out the day.

I say go for the rail! I go out of my way to ride it when I can. If you are coming from Asheville, take I-85 to 485, exit at South Blvd park for free at the Pineville Station. 2 round trip tickets will be $6 or a day pass will be $9. Pikes is located at the East/West Station and Discovery Place is near 7th.

Consider a museum day pass, a good savings if you visit all three museums, Discovery Place, Mint Museum of Craft+Design and The Levine Museum of The New South. If you have the pass you pay a couple more bucks to add on the Pompei exhibit.

Ben Long has painted several frescoes in downtown CLT, they are worth seeing!

WBTV is sponsoring an ice skating rink uptown again this year, It is located at The Green off S Tryon, that might be fun!

This website provides lot of links on what is happening. ~NEW~ Charlotte Center City Partners

They do have a visitors center in uptown located at:

330 South Tryon Street

It will probably be about a 7 block walk from Discovery Place, they have brochures on everything you can do, even uptown walking tours.

B of A Corp Center 100 North Tryon Street
located in the lobby are 3 frescos by Ben Long

Transamerica Square 401 North Tryon Street
another fresco by Ben Long, located in the dome of the buildings arcade

If you are referring to Pike's Soda shop, it is not Uptown. The light rail does run right by it with a very convenient stop.
