Missing Cal! Bored in Gastonia!!!
Somebody please tell me there is more to do here in or around Gastonia??
I just moved here from the San Francisco bay area. I'm having to retrain my speech (slower & slower). Nobody seems to care about world events, politics etc... Is there anybody out there who recently relocated from a large city where everything is busy & exciting and fastpace & might be going through this same feeling I am. If so please email me. So bored & I don't know a soul here. I also work from home so don't really get to mingle during the week alot.

It is a great little town. With beautiful people.
You must not have checked out the area before relocating? But you will find that most around these parts don't take to the backhanded comments.

Maybe I'm just easily entertained, but I'm not bored. If you have a yard & work out in it, you'll surely meet neighbors.
Why are you trying to slow down your speech? I am a Yankee, & I speek just as slowly as everyone who is a native here, but I have a Midwestern accent. I can hear as fast as anyone else. If I was talking to someone & realized that they were trying to speak slowly, I'd be very offended.

Thanks to everybody responding to my "What's up with Gastonia" comments. I definitely didn't mean to offend anybody. I just returned from a 5 day trip to my town in California and really missed Gastonia. The people in Cali are not as nice as people here in Gastonia. I was staying in a hotel in Concord California for those 5 days & around 1am one morning some man tried to break in my hotel room through the patio door (ground floor room). When I pulled the curtains back he got on his knees and put his hands together as in prayer. Very strange, the hotel manager & police finally got him. Anyway, it's not that I dislike Gastonia, it's just that I don't know anyone really, don't have a car yet & haven't had a chance really to venture out. Honestly, there are more good things about NC than CA. It's just a culture shock. I'm sure once I can get out and meet new people it will be a lot less "boring" to me. Which since returning from Cali on May 25th, it is getting a heck of a lot better. I'm originally from a small dry county in Alabama anyway. But, plz forgive me guys, I got stuck in California for almost 15 years. I'm a southern girl and very proud of it. God Bless y'all!

Thanks for the reply. I'm new at this internet stuff. But, since moving from Cali to Gastonia, the net feels like my only link to the outside world. I didn't mean to offend anybody from Gastonia! I really do like being in the south again. I was raised in Winston County Alabama on a farm. But, I have been in California for 15 years. I don't have a car yet and the one person I know here (my roomate) works all day and never wants to go anywhere besides Walmart. He's lived here over 40 yrs and never travels to Charlotte. It's just been such a culture shock. Which I'm not saying is a bad thing, just takes a little adjustmen. How is Kings Mountain? I've heard of it. Also, maybe you know why I can't find a Starbucks anywhere?? I never thought I'd miss Starbucks. It's on every corner in Cali. What about Sushi, Indian, Thai restaurants??

Gastonia has tried to revitalize it's downtown but they haven't been able to attract investors. The other problem is that they fail to get crime under control in the downtown area. Too bad, it has potential.
For my part, Belmont is my favorite town in Gaston county, and the only reason why I do some shopping in Gastonia is to keep my tax dollars in Gaston county.

Just read your info on Gastonia. Maybe you can help me. I just moved to Gastonia from California & it's a major culture shock. Can't even find a Starbucks here. There doesn't seem to be any Sushi, Indian or Thai restaurants. Do I have to go to Charlotte to find those types of establishments? I guess I offended some Gastonians by asking "what's up with it?". But, I didn't mean to. The people seem to be a heck of lot nicer here than in Cali. I only know one family here, (my roomate & his family). They are content with just doing "nothing"all the time. But, since I don't have a car yet & I rental home for at least a year, I have to deal with it. I've heard of Belmont. Maybe I can check out moving there in a year when my lease is up. Thanks!

I just move from Northern California to Gastonia. Illegal immigrations is nothing here compared to Cali. I had to learn some spanish just to order at McDonalds there.

Gaston County is a Giant Dumping Zone and Redneck Capital of NC. Most every home
has 4 wheels and an 8 cyclinder!

That might be funny if it were even remotely true, but it's not.
Gaston County has some really nice areas and homes. Why must I always come behind you to pick up your garbage? I'm feeling a bit like the guy who has to follow the circus parade of animals with a big ole shovel
