Folks - You're looking at this in too "provincial" a manner. What we really need to do is extend the line from the bottom of Union, Anson, and Richmond counties all the way across the top of South Carolina, all the way westward. It's always bothered me the way Lancaster County sticks up by Mecklenberg County giving the bottom of NC almost the same thing that my urologist did to me during my "prostate exam". We would pick up Rock Hill, Spartanburg and Greenville would appear to be split into two parts. It also appears that we might have to lop off a little section of Northern Georgia, but they probably won't miss it too much. We'll then have a nice smooth straight-line border from Richmond on over! If SC complains too much, we can always extend the bottom of Richmond County eastwards to the coast! Will anyone miss Wilmington that much! Just a thought!

Yeah, DH said something to me about this . . . he said we can't just let NC have Duke, Carolina and State . . . it is problematic.

We need to get this down to longitude/latitude so I can create a map and figure out just what we are talking about. I don't know that it suits our POLITICAL purposes to include the eastern part of the state, but claiming the Port of Wilmington could be crucial for commerce.

ani - I simply had an image in my head of NC and Tennesee as the "Doublemint Twins" of the South without that eastern dip. Actually if we lost that part, we might lose a few eastern good ol' boys and I'd think that the SC suburbs around Charlotte would be a lot more supportive than the Wilmington area. Isn't it fun to re-draw state borders?

Don't worry about the port, Ani. but definitely apply to Washington to have Acela extended from DC to Charlotte. That will more than make up for the loss of a port.

I want the coastal area included too ... I love the beach and all the tourist $$$ would be revenue for the new State of Carolina ... the Panthers too ... need to be sure that is included $$$ it's got to be in our tax base for budget planning purposes ... Bobcats ... NASCAR Museum ... we gotta tax the rich only ... haven't I heard that somewhere recently!

Then Wilmington should be in our plan, depending on how much revenue goes to support the Port. I think we should make ruthless decisions based solely on 1. improving the lives of our citizens and 2. how much revenue it will take to not only sustain the citizens and our infrastructure, but also to plan successfully for the future.
You realize when we take in Wilmington, we are gonna have to do a new road . . . and we will strategically bypass any small towns that don't want to be disturbed, LOL, while also being sensitive to any wetland areas. (Our state is going to be very green).

HA HA HA! Governor Ani. Kinda sounds good. But I am more the type to run campaigns and let someone else be out front. However, if drafted, I will serve, ROFL!

Oh dear. Is it treason to talk about secession?
