What neighborhoods would you recommend that are close enough to the city to make for an easy commute, where there is lots to do in the way of dining, shopping, nightlife, but just far enough out of the actual "city" to be fairly quiet, safe, child-friendly, with good schools, a diverse group of residents and lastly housing that is afffordable to the average working person. Thanks!
So stick with Mecklenburg County? Are there other areas within Mecklenburg...or otherwise that are nice - close to uptown? )I'm assuming that is where the most jobs would be found?) I'm doing a property search and there seem to me dozens of small towns or subdivisions within the county. Are most of them nice with the three listed above being the nicest or would you stick w/ those three alone?
I learned that property tax on a $200K home in the area is approx. $1600. Do you agree this is accurate?
I think Cabarrus is something like 1000 for every 100,000. I heard Mecklenberg is higher and you also have to pay Charlotte city tax, but don't quote me on that. Maybe someone else can answer that.
Iredell county which would be the county if you lived in Mooresville is also cheaper then Mecklenberg and also is a nice option for a town. Lake Norman area too, lots of boat ramps in Mooresville, good schools too.
Yea Meck county has a tax, and a charlotte has its tax. Combined its something like 1400 per 100,000. Those people in south park must be paying over 6 grand in taxes a year, oh! Yea Cabarrus is lower as well as Union. But the less you pay for your house is the biggest variable in the equation. They are building beautiful homes (not huge amounts though) out in Belmont in gaston county to the west. Its a tiny town but a 25 minute drive to uptown, which is faster than waxhaw or weddington, or even matthews though it might be borderline. If I had 300K to spend I'd say forget those areas I'll take a house in Belmont and pocket a good 100K that would be leftover. They have a cool park, botanical gardens, handful of churches, and a pub, what more do you need?"

Yes, that's correct - Huntersville/Cornelium/Davidson areas is very, very nice. You have Birkdale shopping, which is a nice area. We live in East Charlotte and I look forward to moving further north.
