Optics?
is a large portion of the Charlotte economy really tied up in Optics? no.
Biotech? Is that a large industry in Charlotte? No.
Aerospace? huh?

I did see the HUGE picture of NASCAR though.

The question AGAIN is What are the other main specific job/industry sectors outside of banking in the Charlotte area?
Trucking/Distribution is one.
I guess NASCAR is out since you did not like me bring that up.

Any others?
From a link in Sunnykayak's post - # 50

The largest industry segments represented here are wholesale trade with 185 establishments and manufacturing with 181 establishments. Wholesale's top position supports Charlotte's reputation as a major distribution center, as was indicated in the 1997 Economic Census ranking it as the 6th largest wholesaling center in the United States.
Quote:
Industry # of Firms
1.Services 222
2.Wholesale/Trade 173
3.Manufacturing 157
4.Retail Trade 115
5.Construction 106
6.Finance Insurance, Real Estate 92
7Transportation, Comm, Utilities 80
8.Other 14

Charlotte’s importance as a business center doesn’t stop with just these firms. Additional Charlotte firms meet this listing’s criteria in Mecklenburg County; however, because of data collection procedures these firms are not included in Dun & Bradstreet’s listings.

* Includes businesses with $10 million or more in sales

Hardly a valid response.
Yes. That is what I am doing. I do my own research. DO YOURS.

First of all . . . you are going round in circles, Gonzo.

Define "high paying job." Let's start there.

You must be under the mistaken impression we want to be like Manhattan or something? It takes jobs of all kinds to keep a city running. This city is a nice mix of blue collar and white collar jobs - and that is a GOOD thing.

No, it is a question I posed to you, so it is your research to answer the question, not mine

You think I thought Charlotte wants to be like Manhattan? Well, don't worry, that isn't going to happen. Not sure where you are going with that one though.
LOL
Nothing wrong with Manhattan, if your rich as hell. Have you ever been to Manhattan? It is awesome BTW.

Hmmm...are there any doctors in Charlotte?

Nope. You're right Gonzo. 100%. The city owes it's life to banking. Charlotteans are so grateful for those days when we were living high on the hog. Now that the finance industry is in trouble...well we'll just pray for the best. Life was good. At least we have the memories.
