Hello,
I am sure there are alot of people asking about this but my husband is considering taking a job in the charlotte area and I was wondering if someone could give me some news regarding anything such as schools, places to look to live and such. We have a 10 year old and a 19 month old so I want something with a good neighborhood. We are coming from Florida where I have lived my entire life and just want someone to tell me if Charlotte is a good place to live. I would also like to hear from anyone who has anything negative to say also. Thank You

Charlotte is a very nice place to live. It is a beautiful city and the people are wonderful. It is a big city now, however, and we do have a growing crime problem and some struggling inner city schools. If you read back you will find much information to give you a feel for what kind of place this is. Deciding where to live in and around the city should be based on where your job location is and how much money you can afford on rent or a mortgage. This is not a cheap city to live in, but it is nothing like what you would find on the west coast or in New York city either

There are many wonderful areas around Charlotte that have good schools and that are great places to raise a family. I have several friends that have moved here from Florida and have not looked back. I live in the Lake Norman area / Mooresville which has fantastic schools, check out these two website for school information.
www.schoolmatters.com
www.ncreportcard.org
This will give you information on how each of the schools rate and demographics.
Where you might consider living would of course be determined by where your husband works and how far he is willing to commute. There are several threads that would give you some great information and insight to what people are saying. I moved here a couple of years ago from DC and I love it. Also check out this newcomer website and click on other useful links, you will be able to find a wide variety of information. If you would like some housing information let me know and I can send you my website further research as well.

Good luck.

I think the Charlotte sub forum has posts that address all your questions. If you'd like to take a look at homes on the market to get an idea of costs feel free to access my website (found under my profile). Surfing the listings will give you an idea of what's out there. Choose your area based on where your husband's job will be. If you have specific questions about any of the details send me a pm.

Charlotte is a very clean city and although crime is on the rise it is still a very safe place to reside, statistically. Charlotte is growing by leaps and bounds and culturally it is maturing each week- arts and entertainment. Find a good realtor!!! I can not stress that enough. I can refer one if you'd like.
