I agree. We pay plenty of taxes on 2 Uptown condo's & 3 cars...and I don't have any curtain climbers (thank GOD)...but still have to help pay for the schools.
..."cutain climbers"...never heard them referred to as such....
very funny though!
To LAMF:
You may not be using it, but from it's presence you will benefit.
The same can be said for myriads of programs, laws, regulations, "services", etc....
Your perception is that I will benefit from increased public transit. My perception is that I will not. What makes your perception so much more important than mine that I will be forced to pay for it?

Never would I suggest that my perception is more important than yours. So let's not get melodramatic here. Believe what you want to believe, but if you do the research, you will find that public transportation is an important factor in building a successful city, period.
If you don't want to live in a progessive city, move out to the outskirts. (Yeah, I hate that suggestion too, but you do want to live in an up-and-coming city, don't you?)
Look at some of the major European cities. It is their public transportation sysytems that have helped catapult them to the major metropolises that they are now. (London, Hamburg, Munich come to mind.)
Civilization as a whole, has always been dependent on good public transportation.
A well-thought out subway/light-rail system can be likened to the circulatory system in the human body. Without it, you'd be dead.
On a different note...does anyone know where all this so called Education Lottery money is going?
I don't know. CMS is having to GIVE BACK $5 M to the state!!! We have a big deficit. (Did I get that figure right?) So the lottery money must not be doing much towards education.
So Urban - what are you proposing the 1 cent tax go on? Retail overall? Groceries? Liquor?
I think we should add a 3 cent tax for education to liquor plus a 3 cent tax that goes for transit. So I propose a six cent tax on liquor.
