But seriously, these things usually get resolved quickly. If TWC doesn't carry the Viacom channels, then Viacom's audience is a lot less and they can't charge advertisers the same rates. TWC and Viacom are just playing chicken with each other as a negotiating tactic.

DaddySpice - I read on the AVSforum that Raleigh is getting a $3 a month increase as of Jan 1st. Since Raleigh is just a part of TW Carolinas, I wonder if we're all getting hit with a $3 increase starting tomorrow. It wouldn't surprise me in the least! A happy new year from TWC -more dough, less show!
A pox upon both TW and Viacom! I love how they both view the other company as the "enemy of the consumer"!! Both are basically saying "we want more money!" Their current positions would make Israel and Hamas look like bosom buddies! At times like this, it makes me wish I was still back in NJ and could get Verizon Fios!
For all of you Dish Network and DirectTV subscribers a question. Do you have to have a "box" attached to every TV in the house, or do you still get some kind of signal out of the bare wire connected to a TV? I wouldn't want to switch and have to pay for 4 boxes either.

Yeah, probably. The Viacom folks are saying their demands work out to 25 cents per subscriber per month, but it would be just like TWC to jack your bill up a few bucks claiming it was Viacom's fault.

To answer a couple questions posed here:
For internet, we still use TW. You can't beat their speed. We also are still on their phone service, but are looking to change to Vonage or something comparable.
For DirecTV boxes (and I believe Dish is the same), yes, you have to have a box for every TV (which they charge $5 a month for each one) that you want to have sat service. You can actually have only one box, but every TV in the house will have the channel showing that the main TV with the box is watching. Sounds goofy, but it has it's applications. In our case, we have the living room and master bedroom with their own boxes (one with DVR) and we're still only paying $49 a month (after taxes) for the 150+ channel package. TW can't hold a candle to that!
As far as down time during inclement weather, I've had DirecTV for about 5 months now and haven't experienced one bit of blocked signal. It's all in how good of an angle you can get your dish aimed and what's blocking the view (trees). Even in the overcast blah days we had before Christmas, perfect signal.
The biggest revelation I've had in my switching providers is catching on to their advertising scheme. The pitch of "saving money through bundling" is in fact valid, but only within their service. NOT in comparison to using other companies! That is, if you were to somehow order separately, cable, internet, and phone through TW, it would be much more expensive than the bundle deal they offer. They apply some percentage of a discount when you order two or more services. HOWEVER, if you order services from multiple different providers (i.e. DirecTV for TV, TW for internet, and Vonage for phone), it's highly likely that you'll pay significantly less for the same level of service (in our case about $50 a month less). Sure, you have three bills instead of one, but I think we could all be slightly inconvenienced to have to open three envelopes rather than one for $50 a month!!! Don't be fooled...do your homework. It pays.

I don't watch any of those stations so I can't really say that I care too much.

I'm big on Palladia, VH1 Classic and Comedy Central (even though I'm a conservative I LOVE The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, not to mention the occasional South Park).
I don't put anything past any of these companies. After losing an entire season of Yankees baseball due to contractual dispute between Cablevision and YES, I don't trust any of 'em to do the right thing.

I'd be OK with losing those channels if TW would lower my bill accordingly. I can watch The Daily Show, Colbert and SouthPark on the internet for free. Well, almost free -- I still have to pay for RoadRunner.

Doing the same thing next month. Cable costs too much to have equipment that reboots itself all the time and channel lineups that take forever to load.

We were lucky enough to keep Bell South for internet when we moved from Miami, we didnt even have to change our email address.
We have been happy with Direct TV except for when they charged me $50 to come out and reattach a poorly installed dish. We didnt have service for 6 days while we waited! We had cable back in Fla, would never go back to it.
