Agree 100% about Sonny's.

I have tried the Q at Mac's Speed Shop (S Blvd location). The pork was very good. I was disappointed with the brisket, however. The sides are excellent.

I have to admit that I ate some of Mac's (South Blvd.) BBQ at the Festival on the Park and it was AWFUL. It was nothing but fat. That put me off for a long time. I suppose it was because it was cooked en mass? It has been fine out here in Cornelius.

I make my own as the Charlotte area really doesn't have great BBQ.

My inlaws have gotten Lake Shore BBQ (Denver area) and its as good as I've had around Charlotte.

Sorry but we are talking about the chain. It isn't that bad, just not Carolina BBQ. I do like the bread pudding on their salad bar. By the way, it is hard to find good Carolina BBQ in Charlotte. Go figure?

If you can, try Bubba's on Sunset Road, west off of I-77. It is very good, Carolina style and very low fat.

521 BBQ in Fort Mill/Indianland SC is pretty good for Carolina Style.

I refuse to eat BBQ anywhere in this area...it is horrible. The only 2 places in NC that I will eat BBQ are both in Lexington, NC (BBQ Capital of the US) and is only about 1hr from Charlotte. Also home to the BBQ Festival in October that draws about 250,000 to this small town. 2 best BBQ places in Lexington are

1) Speedy's
2) Lexington BBQ

If you ever get a chance go to Lexington...it is worth the drive. Gary's in China Grove is good...but can't touch Lexington.

I concur all the the places mention above use gas or electric and not hickory wood chip fire the way authentic is suppose to be cooked
