Still nothing here. In fact, we had our cats' shots updated several months ago and didn't even receive the customary postcard reminder. What a waste of money for the city!

Exactly...who is "they?"

I still hold this is nothing more than FUD.
And to Nativechief, you stated they WILL arrest you...but you stated the card said they "could." Which is what I recall.

Will is not the same as could.
- You could win the lottery.
- You could get hit by a bus.
- You could get attacked by hackers if you use anything other than Windows.
- You could have your pet confiscated by them if you don't pay fees to a PO box in Texas.

FUD is a strong strategy that pulls on your emotions...and in many works...just look at how often it is used in everything from advertising to politics.

Until I see some evidence of what Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Control WILL do if these fees are not paid, I for one will continue to not pay them. I don't believe in them, and have issues with how they are being managed. And, to date, nothing has happened for going on 2 years now.
2/10/12 Update
Nothing has happened to us or our cat.
Not one call, not one strongly worded letter, no Justice of the Peace knocking on our door, nor a visit by Animal Control.....nothing.

As I said, FUD.

I think my wife has just reported the cat deceased to Pet Data.

Default Nothing

I've had the cat for about a year now, haven't heard anything. Come January I'll need to take him in for rabies shot. We'll see how it goes after his visit to the vet.

Our cat is indoor cat and never been outdoors a day in her life. I think it crazy that by law we have to license them and pay for a rabies shot. Wow, I am staring to sound like a Libertarian.

Another Update:

We adopted a second kitten from the shelter. Got his shots and about 6 months later and got the notice in the mail. Never received one for the first cat. There is a convenient box on the card for "deceased" and "no longer owns". I am debating which one to check or if I should just reply that I moved out of the county.

So far the only thing this license fee has done is make me hesitant to get my cats shots updated. Petdata.com isn't getting any of my money.

We also went to a different Vet this time because the shelter gave us a gift certificate there. We won't be going back to that place anymore.
