Atlanta also has more diversity when it comes to educated people and the wealthy.
Again, I love Charlotte, but I am not afraid to give Atlanta props. Fulton county GA is the number one destination of folks leaving Mecklenburg county (folks that move to another NC town are not counted in this). Mecklenburg county is the number one destination of folks leaving Fulton County GA (folks moving to another GA location are not counted in this).
This simply means that some folks in Charlotte want to be in a larger city and some folks in Atlanta want to be in a smaller city.

I agree. I lived in Atlanta for 10 years and have lived here in Charlotte for 8 years. Charlotte is a great place to raise kids. But I also raised my son in Atlanta metro and he graduated from college and turned out to be a fine young man. I will go back to Atlanta in a heartbeat if the right opportunity arises. Charlotte is nice and cleaner, with less traffic, but overall I prefer Atlanta.

I've only been to Atlanta once. The biggest difference I noticed is they have better and more ethnic restaurants than Charlotte.

Comparing Atlanta and Charlotte is like comparing Houston and Austin or Chicago and Detroit or LA and San Diego etc...the two cities are just on different levels. Atlanta is now considered to be a "gamma" world city that says alot. Charlotte would be a compromise for people looking for a slower paced family oriented environment thats clean and with other good standards of living. They are both great progressive cities that offer something for everyone but they are very different.

Charlotte could really use more urban planning inside and outside of uptown the way how Atlanta has done. Charlotte should also look towards Atlanta for lessons on what to do and what not to do more often than Charlotte currently does.
I have said it in Atlanta's forums and I will say it here as well. I love Charlotte, but Atlanta makes Charlotte look like Mayberry. It is what it is. I wish it wasn't true.
The only reason why these two cities are ever compared is because (outside of Florida) Atlanta and Charlotte are the two largest metros in the South. I consider DC to be more mid-Atlantic than southern BTW. Nationally, Charlotte is about the 25th largest metro in the country and Atlanta is around number 10. These are based on CSA populations; not MSA's which are smaller.

I wouldnt say 20 or 30 yrs to catch up to Atlanta, I would say more like 10 or 15.

Atlanta city is smaller in population...quite a bit less than Charlotte. When you are talking about Metro areas...that is a different story. I personally don't see that many similarities in the 2 as a former Atlanta resident. Both are nice cities in their own way.

The fact that both CLT and ATL are located in the South is about the only comparison, IMO. Totally different vibe.

sounds like you are saying you would like to see AA dominance in Charlotte as it is in Atlanta. Its without doubt in Atlanta that way now.
