These are pics of a city that has a metro of ONLY 2.3 million people. Atlanta's metro is about 6 million strong. Take a good look at these pics and try to kid yourself into thinking Atlanta is more like Vancouver than it is like Charlotte. Are you starting to see why some folks compare Atlanta and Charlotte now? Does this make things clear?
Atlanta's "6 million" population encompasses an area larger than NC's entire piedmont, and its 3 metros together also have upwards of 6 million people.
Atlanta's "6 million" is based on a 25-35 county metro area

I am still kinda lost on this thread, LOL.
Brichard made a lot of good points about how "urban" CLT seems as compared to ATL . . . and I hope CLT is going to continue w/ the city-proper development. To me, CLT has the possibility of building a very strong center city core, and I hope that is what will happen. I DO get the comparison to DC as being relevant, b/c of the idea that CLT could have strong neighborhoods like DC has (of course, smaller) and that is something that Atlanta lacks, IMHO. So I see that development of a strong city core w/ robust neighborhoods in our various wards as being the direction we should move in - and something that ATL lacks.

I kind of hate these city vs. city threads, especially trying to compare Charlotte with other established cities, b/c there is no comparison. I like them both, if you ask me. I like Atlanta b/c it is a happening place and there is a lot to do. I also like Charlotte b/c it is an up an coming city and in another 15-20 years, it will be comparable to Atlanta. The thing about Charlotte that I like the most is that when I visit there (I'm from Kernersville, mind you), I like watching it transform right in front of your eyes. Like I said, I like both cities and we should be proud that they are wonderful cities representing the southern region.

I would prefer partying in Charlotte's downtown to Atlanta's any day. The best think about Atlanta is that Charlotte can learn from it what not to do. Atlanta isn't like many other large cities with huge populations. It is very dangerous to walk around Atlanta and driving suks. Other than Buckhead (which is going down the tubes), Atlanta is only descent after exit #99 north on I-85.

Atlanta is a thriving city. I am beginning to think people really like Atlanta because there are more vs atlanta threads on this forum than any other city. I think charlotte is moving into a wonderful direction but I also think Atlanta is moving towards a better one. With Atlantic Station, Midtown Mile ( Saks and Apple store are rumored to be at 12th and midtown development) . streets of buckhead, And the Old MAcys project. Atlanta will have that big urbancore right in midtown. I believe Midtown will be our party play and work district while Downtown stays buisness district here is some of the articles about this development.

Buckhead is HARDLY going down the tubes...sure the bar scene (the Buckhead you know) had some problems in the late 1990's but Buckhead has seen more growth in the last 5 years than Charlotte has and is in the mist of comprehensive planning to make the area more pedestrian friendly. In fact, the streetscape along parts of P'tree between Roswell and Lenox are already upgraded and wonderful. Not to mention the extreme amount of wealth in Buckhead and surrounding neighborhoods. Buckhead will ALWAYS be strong and great investment.
Additionally, Uptown Charlotte is much more comparable to Midtown ATL than Downtown ATL..
Again, stupid thread...no right or wrong, just opinions and mostly wrong stereotypes made by ignorant people

Shame on you...you completely neglected how both Charlotte and Atlanta have three vowels! That makes us like first cousins right? We should not discriminate against vowels...
I think it's also important to note the diversity that Charlotte has...three different vowels...Atlanta only has A...not very diverse at all.

Everyone thinks of Downtown Atlanta and they don't realize there is so much more to the city. Charlotte only has Downtown (or Uptown whatever you prefer to call it) and Atlanta has Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead. Obviously you have never been to Little Five Points or Virginia Highlands or even Midtown and yes Buckhead. I was just in Atlanta and in Buckhead they just re-did Peachtree Street to make it more pedestrian friendly. Virginia Highlands is an awesome, vibrant area with lots of character, great bars, restaurants, and lots of young people everywhere. Lots of traffic late into the night (it isn't always fun but it adds to the vibrancy of any area) and lots of people walking and bar-hopping. Atlanta is not as terrible as people make it out to be and being 23 years old Atlanta definitely has a better nightlife scene than Charlotte. Atlanta is not only a larger city/metro but it also has one of the largest college student populations with over 130,000 which is probably why they have better nightlife.
Charlotte doesn't remind me of Atlanta. It has a different feel to it and that is how it should be. I just wanted to stick up for Atlanta because it's a nice city too.
