I believe that issue has been resolved my friend - he has the degree - the university has said it's his.

It’s not hard to lower the crime rate. Monroe is simply doing what Darryl Stevens failed to do, which is put officers out on the street to be visible. Here’s a recent article about an increased police presence during New Years on West Blvd. which historically has seen a lot of problems during that time of year. The high profile part of the article is about Uptown, but I like the fact that they highlighted the West Blvd changes too.

The type of crime that impacts most law abiding citizens experience is down. He has a degree, VCU awarded it. Those are the facts. I'm not sure how those facts can be argued.

+1. Statistics sometimes seem worse than they are because most of the crimes are gang member on gang member related violence/murders.
Liberals would scream holy hell but if you could divide crimes against gangsters and crimes against random people into seperate stats you would have a much better picture of how safe your city is.

I would agree with you. No screaming from this semi-liberal corner.

My take, as it always has been, is that when compared to other cities of similar size, Charlotte does NOT have a crime problem. I think it has more of a percepted crime problem.
Especially as of late, people have been overly concerned about our growing crime problem. Truth is....Charlotte's crime is actually considerably lower than it has been in YEARS. Here's proof: Charlotte crime rate -- lowest in years | CharlotteObserver.com
The only statistic that actually increased was homicides. While many people tend to base their crime problem perception on murder rates alone, that is actually not a very good assessment. I'm not trying to sound cold-hearted, but history tells us that 90% (domestic cases aside) probably made bad decisions that led to their death. Your chances of being a random act of violence is actually pretty close to nill.
Anyways, I think with chief Monroe in charge, Charlotte's future is looking better than ever!

The only two crimes that worry me are murder and home invasions. Both are up. Although they murder mostly happens in bad areas and doesn't affect most of us, they are still statistics that can't possibly make any police chief look good.

They can easily be argued. He took two classes at VCU. The university requires that a student at the university (undergraduate level) take a minimum of 30 credit hours there. He didn't. His being awarded a degree was unethical and the university has made it an issue and admitted that his degree was precariously awarded. Maybe I should use my CPR certificate to perform heart surgery?

If he gets the job done and Charlotte is safer for us and our families, you may be the only one worried about his degree.

Home invasions were up in one specific area, south Charlotte. Keep in mind, it started at close to nill in comparison so any crime will show an influx. Given the data just being released, I'm sure adjustments will be made to rectify the problem. Matter of fact, without having any numbers to look at specifically, I tend to think that wave has actually already slowed considerably. I could be wrong, but it seems as though.
As for murders, that's the crime that police have the hardest time controlling. You can decrease numbers of other crimes simply by increasing police presence and/ or response time. But the police are not much of a deterrent when it comes to one thug killing another. There is usually very little rational thinking involed with these types of crime. Most of these people have very little, if any at all, value for human life, including their own.
