1) Why should Charlotte be the state capital? Geographically, that doesn't make much sense.

2) Atlanta gets lots of road money from the state, sure, but gets shafted when it comes to mass transit. This, in large part, explains why even with all of its roads, Atlanta still has some of the worst traffic in the nation.

A State Capital does not make any real different, NC has messed up rules regarding streets, has nothing to do with BofA or Wachovia and needs to be fixed. I very much agree there. Also if state capitals were important, I am confused how are 3 largest cities are not state capitals, NYC, Chicago and LA.

Since these threads will never go away, I will continue with my reply. BofA has the following plan. Mortgages will be lead our of California (formally Countrywide area), Investment Banking out of NYC (Merril Lynch) and Retail/Consumer in Charlotte. Ken Lewis spends a lot of time in NYC, but he also goes to London, CA, etc. BofA may at some point move HQ's to to NYC and though Charlotte may keep lots of corporate jobs, which makes sense since its cheaper and already own the space. You may see a slower corporate presence and invesment scheme in Charlotte, but not by much. And the State would lose a big chunk of tax. It would suck, we would move on. I can't predict 10 years from now, but who knows where anyone will be. I don't see anything changing in the next 3 years.
