What's the deal with Catawba River Plantation and Brookmere? There seems to be an awful lot of homes for sale in those neighborhoods and the prices are pretty low....I'm kind of confused. Is this a bad area? Would you recommend one of these neighborhoods or should we stay away?

Let me just start off saying that I do not live in either of these communities. I did, however, live down Mt. Holly-Huntersville road on the other side of Hwy. 16. My pets still go to the Total Bond Veterinary Hospital just around the corner from Catawba River Plantation.

I did look at CRP when they began building. While the houses were of a decent size and the price was definitely right, the homes didn't have any "WOW" features. They felt to be of average construction and had the same features of the home I was already in. We were looking to upgrade/upsize. At the time, the development had not reached the river and we were kind of looking for waterfront as well.

I did not look at Brookmere because the the lot sizes were smaller and, again, we were looking for upgrade/upsize. The original sections of Brookmere were built by Beazer. They're currently under heat for the foreclosure rate in some of their other developments. Not sure if Brookmere is affected by these foreclosures. Maybe that's what you're seeing. When I drive by each of these neighborhoods, they look like they're being kept up and the houses don't look too bad.

As far as the area, I'd consider living there if I didn't have to consider schools. The newest portion of I-485 isn't far away and because of that, the area is absolutely ready to BOOM with retail and other services. Get in now while it's cheap!
