Article: Relocation.com :: Relocation.com Predicts Top Cities People Will Move to in 2009; Las Vegas is Top Destination for Movers

LOL!! I know a lot of you don’t want to hear this. Let the debates begin. I know the first question, “Where are these folks getting work?”

This is nothing new and not unexpected. Places like AZ and NC have been wildly popular for people to move to for many reasons. The difference is the amount of people who have moved has slowed (because of problems selling their homes up north). Look no further than the school enrollment for CMS and surrounding counties....much slower growth than what was originally anticipated...I've said that ad nauseum.

Yes, I ask you, what are these people going to do in terms of work? There is no magic pill here in terms of employment. So, many still think this is 2006 (which is a lifetime ago)....they will be rudely awakened like many here now...

I have a friend living in Vegas and cannot find a job anywhere. She is close to moving back to New England w/her parents...I hope not to many people plan on going there. On the other side...I am sure that many people in the Northeast will decide to cut costs and move South. Many like our family do not work in an office but out of a home and airport ...so Charlotte is a great choice for them!! It has worked well for us and many of our friends.

Robin, people have been doing that for years. That's why Charlotte has grown to where it is now....

The difference is that getting a job pre say '06 was an afterthought. Most would buy something here, sell their home up north, and find a job. Those 3 things are extremely difficult to do now obviously....many are finally waking up and smelling the coffee.....

For us...the key was that my husband works at home and really only needed to be near an airport. For many sales people around here where I live this has been an excellent option for them...since the commute is easy and the airport great.

For many families moving back I think they come hear expecting it to be extremely inexpensive...which it isn't.

If you are a tele-commuter, moving here may be a solution, b/c of cost of living (COL). So for those folks - it could be a good move.

Also - retirees - who have an intact pension and savings . . . and can pay cash for their home.

So those are two demographic groups that could find CLT a very good situation.

In NY last month I was almost shocked to see so many people.
I thought all of them had moved South.

no, actually, they lost the jobs that they came here for and found new ones up north. they were missing their families a lot, so, said...why not? Honestly don't blame them too much since their entire support system was there and not here...

Yep, I totally agree and apologize for making a blanket statement.

Not everyone who moves here is in dire straits in terms of employment. Also, like you said, many retirees are safe......I was just talking about a good portion of people who have relocated recently.
