I never under stood the whole "lets go out and ruin a fur coat" idea. Ok I'm wearing my mink coat with baby seal eye buttons cruising down the street. 35 vermin and 2 baby seals gave their life for my warmth. Some hippy with birkenstocks and dreadlocks throws paint at me and ruins my coat.
Ok, so I have my insurance cover the cost of my coat and I go out and buy another coat. So now 70 furry vermin and 4 baby seals gave their life to keep me warm.
I don't see the hippy's thought process here.

I was at a party new years' eve that was partially outside.
Casual bunch of mostly locals that have known each other forever.
One guy shows up wearing, I kid you not, a man's fur coat like in that Norman Rockwell picture.
Growing up my mother and grandmother had a fur coat, but the only time I saw men wearing them was in old (B&W) movies or photographs.
We gave him some serious grief most of the evening, which he might never recover from, but each of us tried that coat on at some point.
It WAS extremely warm.
It is what it is, maybe P.Diddy is onto something.

I never got the uproar over fur except for endangered species. Now whacking baby seals - that is just despicable. But nuking a mink . . . they are carnivores that eat bunnies and frogs and really - what is the big deal w/ raising mink to make coats?
I love leather . . . and eat steaks. I think being so uptight about fur coats (especially mink) is hypocritical.

I have a silver raccoon coat like the one pictured on the Rockwell cover. It has 36 raccoons in the coat & 9 in the matching trooper cap. I also have a full length mink & a matching trooper cap for it as well.

I'm afraid we are going to need a pic, with you wearing it of course.
Well, I am off to HT to get bread and milk (at least enough to last 2-3 weeks)
Wish I had one of these coats to wear...
LOL

It is regretful, as mullman said, that we'll need to see documentation of that. I bet it's quite a sight! You'd have to take the pics outside, though, or you'd overheat before the flash went off!

Was living in London, UK, in 1984. Walking on crowded shopping street behind a women in a maximum fur coat. It was bound to have been hugely expensive, or at least looked so.
Our of a doorway jumped an animals rights activist and sprayed the women's coat with bright, bright, day-glo orange paint. And then she (the activist) was gone. Black pants, black high tops and purple hair type. I mean, this happened like 5 feet away.
Women in coat melted down, I waited for police and told them what I saw, which wasn't much, but dang it happened so fast.

Wow. Well, that is excessive. I am not a fan of fur coats; when I was a kid, I refused to go anywhere with my mother when she wore hers. But, to spray it with paint...that is a bit much!
