We just had a dusting in Lincoln County but the schools are closed. The roads are probably slippery. That's fine with me, I get another day home with the kids

We did. I got up at 2 am and it was misty/rain - then again around 4 am and there was snow . . . it is definitely slick here off Carmel. I am uploading pix now and hope to have one of kids snowboarding on the STREET, LOL. That is how slick it is.

Welcome to all the side effects of all this "wonderful" snow. Putting people's lives in danger. Come back later and ask all these people who were in wrecks today how much they would love to see snow again!
Been there, done that, luckily survived without bad injury, really really don't want to do it again. And I'm from western PA and know how to drive in bad weather. Did I mention how much I hate, hate, hate this crap?? If I NEVER saw it again, it would be too soon.

I was so disappointed that Kannapolis only got a dusting, and shocked to see that UNCC is closed today! It finally feels like winter though, I am so happy! Even better that I can stay home and watch the inaugeration.
Does anybody know, though, for the University is there a chance that they will decide to reopen later if the snow melts, or once they close it is it definately closed? I'm not sure if I need to keep checking the website or not.

We got about 2-3 inches here in Monroe and it is still snowing although very lightly. My youngest ds and my dog have had a blast outside most of the morning. Not supposed to get above freezing today so we will have to see what the roads are like in the AM. Wouldn't be suprised if there was a 2 hour delay tomorrow. Of course the kids haven't realized that as much as they are enjoying the snow day today, they lost their day off this coming Friday. It was supposed to be a teacher workday but will now be a regular school day.

We have ice on our deck from the brief rain we got before the snow started to fall. The poodle came in with snow all over its face. Talk about a rude awakening.

I soooo agree. But it gives me good reason to work from home, be on City Data, taking photos at break, and glancing at the inauguration proceedings. I remember February 1st of 2007 when ice had caused what was reportedly about 300 accidents in Charlotte metro. The woman I used to work for said I should go to work or put in for PTO, despite the fact that I was already working from home as early as 6 am. Oh well, had to disconnect and enjoy the snow. Here's a photo of my backyard today:
