I've thought about that too. Linkedin is more professional IMO.

Couldn't we have groups on both sites?

Yep. We could have groups all over the place - we could start our own website, for that matter.

You don't so much form a group on LinkedIn, but it can result in some good connections.

Good idea for a thread. I do general IT with a focus on networking (just in case my username didn't spell it out for you) but I can figure out how to do it all.

I also owned my own marketing firm in college that paid for my food and beer my last few semesters.

I don't do a whole lot of freelance work anymore, unless I have the time to take on the project 100% or it is something small for friends.

You have a lot of talent then! It is always good to have contacts for IT if a person owns a small business.

Going back to your database example Ani, I could do it, but I wouldn't have any idea how to comply with HIPPO or whatever you said I'd have to look up the guidelines, etc. you will probably end up going with an outside vendor with a support contract.

Unless you have a lot of resources dedicated to this project or intent to market it widely later, I don't think it's worth it while there are a lot of well developed applications out there. I wouldn't trust a single person or even a group of freelancers to develop such mission critical application unless they have years of experience in such industry. What happens if they close their door and stop support their product?

Exactly my point.

I could do it, but wouldn't because of the mentioned items.
