Charlotte NC Pet Food Bank
The Charlotte Animal Care and Control Dept has begun setting up a pet food bank for pet owners in need - with the goal of helping pet owners keep their pets instead of surrending them to the shelter.
Just wanted to share in case anyone's interested:
Pet Food Bank
Hope everyone's having a great week so far

What type of contributions are they looking for? Do they need volunteers? Do you think they could use animal food coupons that people aren't using?

The site says they need all types of pet food - dog, puppy, cat, kitten. I'm not sure about coupons, it says they accept either food or monetary donations. Seems like for right now they're accepting food donations (and applications for assistance) at the shelter (8315 Byrum Dr, Charlotte 28217).

What great information! I am passing the info on to friends and family. It brings a tear to my eye just thinking of having to surrender my dog.
Ecuse me while I go and give my dog an extra hug, I'll bet he's still sleeping on the sofa!

What a terrific idea!!! I'm glad to know they are trying to help people hang onto their pets during difficult times.

Thanks for the comments! Please do share with anyone you think may be interested in the info. For many people times are difficult right now, if we can help others in the community even in some small way, I think it's worth a try

CMPD Animal Care & Control is always looking for more volunteers and donations. Please check their website to find out how to do these things.

thx for posting this! We just got our puppy from Animal Control, and they said there is a big increase in owner surrenders of pets due to cost. Hopefully this will help more people keep their furry friends!
