My husband and I are interested in relocating to Charlotte from northern Jersey for business reasons. We arrived last, Wednesday, and began looking at homes throughout Charlotte. After reading this board for some time our search started in the neighborhoods of South Charlotte and Waxhaw area. I noticed several nicely developed areas within a few miles of Providence Road and 485, but the further south we headed toward Waxhaw the more rural the area became. We meet with our Realtor on Wednesday of this week but really want to learn as much about Charlotte on our own. Did we miss something, after reading the threads on this board I really expected more development?

There was a press release this weekend about the new MillbridgeNC community. Not much there yet to see, but from the info in the news and on their webpage, looks like a great new community:

You will find that things are more rural as you head into Union County (because up until about 10 years ago, it was mostly farms and working class neighborhoods). Union County is in the middle of a development boom, but you will see very expensive developments surrounded by pockets of ruralness. If you are looking for something more established, probably look around the SouthPark area inside Mecklenburg. Most of the attraction to Union County seems to be for young families looking for quality, neighborhood schools and lower taxes.

My family and I moved from Western NJ last June to Waxhaw and we love it. Everyday it seems to change there are many changes happening in Union County, many news schools are being built for the influx of newcomers and there are shopping cenetrs going up all over the place, in 5 years time it will look very different. Depends really on what you are looking for. Hopefully your search will find you what you are lookign for. Good Luck!

What development did you move to? Do you shopping centers or a strip mall with Harris Teeter?

I heard something about the Cureton area today and not sure if it's true or not. Are they expanding a Watewater Treatment plant near there? Like I said it was hearsay but I'd hate to be there if it's true and the wind blows the wrong way....

They are expending the water Treatment Plant there but I think once that happens and it has the capacity again for all the new homes the problem should be eleviated. It is not a constant odor it's just once in a while when the system is pushed to it's limits...

I have a house in Waxhaw. I also lived out of Monroe, dont move near Monroe the house prices dont increase. Also, Weddington was where I would go if I had it to do over again. The roads are the worst part of NC. 55 on roads with deadly (not kidding) ditches on the side. Our friends were hit head on by a young driver. She caught the edge of the pavement and to avoid the ditch she over corrected. Up, down and around with driveways coming out on to the road when your going 55! At least in Weddington you have a straighter shot to Charlotte. Dont go south of here or you hit the terrible roads and traffic.

I am looking to move to waxhaw/weddington/marvin area. I am looking for a rental home first though - I don't want to buy right away. I am having a hard time though b/c we are in NJ and we seem to be getting our applications in just after others b/c we are so far away. Do you know of any in the area or of any specific subdivisions that you recommend. I have 3 boys so I am looking for a 4 BR with a decent amount of property.

thanks!!
