Was wondering what are dog friendly areas and parks. We are raw food feeders and was hoping there are distributors (ie Omas's pride) that are in the area. We were also wondering if there are townshouses/condo's that allow two dogs around 45 lbs each (standard poodles)
Thanks!
Sandy
There are dog parks in Mecklenburg county. Here's the main page - Dog Parks (http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/Park+and+Rec/Parks/Dog+Parks/Home.htm - broken link)
I don't know anything about raw feeding but according to the Oma's pride (http://www.omaspride.com/Retailers.htm - broken link) website, it's products available at seven places in the Charlotte area.
sandyart -- as far as your last question, the way it generally works here is that you ask the individual owners of the townhouse/condo what their pet policy is and that will determine how many dogs and the size dogs you are allowed to have.
some owners don't allow pets based on hoa restrictions or personal preference, but many (i would say most) do and charge either non-refundable or refundable pet fees to guarantee their homes aren't ruined. i have one dog, under 20 pounds, and i have run into both situations.
as to your first question, we do have dog parks as ncgirl said. the only thing i would caution you about these parks is that sometimes you can run into trouble with aggressive dogs. my personal situation with this is that i visited william r davie park, which is one of the ones on the list, a couple of years ago.
at the time, to enter, you had to have paid for a pass based on certain criteria. but what was actually happening there is that one of the paid-entry visitors was standing by the fence and opening the gate for anyone who wanted to enter. (i think one of the criteria was that your dog had to neutered/spayed, but i can't remember.)
anyway, i kept barnaby on leash and we ended walking WAY to the back of the park, where we encountered two non-neutered males on the other side of the fence. their owner was trying to figure out how to get in. these two dogs went nuts when they saw barnaby and were lunging and growling at him and trying to get at him THROUGH the fence.
i asked the owner if he had a pass, and he said no, and THEN i realized he was going to be able to get in anyway b/c of the girl standing letting people without passes in. so barnaby and i took off race-walking for the front to get there before this guy could.
so, that's just my personal opinion about the off-leash parks. i think they can be very dangerous. but please don't take that as me lecturing to you, that is just something that happened to me at one.
good luck! hope you find what you are looking for!
