Crime in Union County
I just read numerous posts about the crime in Union County. My family and I want to move to NC, but are now concerned with the excessive crime. My son is looking for a teaching job, we want a safe friendly place to live. Please let me know which counties in NC are desirable. Thanks

Do you want to know about crime in North Carolina, or crime in Union County? Your thread title is a bit misleading... Perhaps you are thinking of relocating to another area of NC if Union County doesn't fit the bill? I am confused about your intentions?

Where are you located now? Crime here is talked about a lot. It may be you have as much of the same types of crimes going on in your present location - but it just doesn't get the coverage crime does here.
We can direct you to crime stats for a particular area but as Loves said - not sure whether you are looking at NC in general - or Union Co in particular. (BTW - Union Co is not crime-ridden).

freaked about what?? we are from NY and NJ....Union County doesnt have alot of crime....car break ins are everywhere, certain parts of charlotte have crime, again it depends on where u live..We live in Waxhaw/Marvin and occassional car break ins will happen. but overall its safe here and the area is very desirable it has its problems as there is no perfect place but for us it works and we are very happy and so are my children. My son's teachers some of them are from NY Westchester County and Long Island and they love living and teaching here.they teach in Marvin Ridge Middle, there is Marvin Ridge High School, Weddington Elem, Weddington Middle and Weddington HS.then there will be a new school opening in Waxhaw Called Cuthburtson Middle and Cuthburtson HS they will be opening for the next school year..im sure they will be hiring teachers soon. Also very nice area...if he is looking to teach tell him to look into Western Union County....there are a ton of schools in Union he just needs to do his homework...
what grade does he teach??

teaching in Union County
I was recently told by someone working in Union County schools that there was a hiring freeze. True?

Union County is the safest place I've ever lived. I'm not sure what you're hearing/reading but as far as crime goes, Union County is pretty darn safe. It is not completely without crime, but no place is.

I suppose there is crime everywhere, including Union County....but I'd hardly call it 'excessive'. The police blotter usually looks pretty tame...some car break ins, maybe a shed break-in and lots of 'suspicious' person or vehicle reports. Of course more serious crimes happen too but not enough to declare an excessive crime problem here. A lot of people still leave their doors unlocked. I'm not saying it's a smart thing to do...just saying people feel safe enough to do it.
