I've had it done for a few hundred $ in several houses in other states. Any plumber can do it, so long as you have gas already in the house it's not expensive. They should put a shut-opff valve where the line comes out of the house, to shut off just that line, from outside. Just a safety precuation when you're not using it.

In North Carolina HVAC contractor runs gas line, not plumbers.
Call Andersen Heating and Cooling they will do it.
Well, Scotsman, that was a great idea. Evidently, PNG got so many calls they decided to give out contractors names again, LOL!!! I thought it was very odd (and not very customer service friendly) when they refused to help direct me to approved contractors.
Gettinga gas line is one of the things on my list to get eventually. We use the grill so much that its so cost ineffective to keep replacing tanks all the time. Also, the extra trips and lugging these things are a pain in the neck.
We've actually been thinking about this as well. Our gas fireplace is in the wall that our deck is built on to (the back end / exahaust vent is on the deck) so there should already be a line right there to tap in to.
To the OP - please report back on how this goes and what the final cost was.
We have a gas water heater and a gas fireplace, but my wife wanted a gas cooktop (we had electric) and we both wanted gas out on the deck for a grill. We had a nice plumber do all this gas work. I try to block out the painful parts, but the number $900 seems to stick in my head. I hope that was for everything, but I am not so sure. We still haven't bought a grill yet!
I had a gas line ran to our patio for the grill after we moved in.
It cost about $400.00 in December, 2004.
Best money I have spent since I don't have to lug the propane tank to the store every couple of weeks.
