Gas Line Run for Grill?
Our builder would not run a line for our grill. We already have gas and the main line is very close to where the grill is. Has anyone had a line run to their grill? Can you recommend any companies/people to do this?
Thanks

You have to have the gas company do it.

Are you sure? If the home has existing gas service, I would think that it requires a contractor (licensed plumber?) as opposed to the gas provider.

Yes, I'm fairly certain you have to get the gas company to do it, unless something has changed since I did it.

When I checked into that a few years ago, the gas company would NOT do it. they only referred me to some licensed contractors. It was a pricey proposition and so I abandoned the idea.

They must have too many requests now to be able to do it themselves anymore. Well, you've answered the OP's question...get a list of contractors from the gas company who do do this kind of installation

Unfortunately, PNG won't even give you a list of contractors anymore. Now, they were doing that as late as 2003, cause I called them at that time about running a line from our street to our fireplace, a gas lamp and a grill. We do not have any gas appliances in our house. They gave me the name of a few approved contractors at that time (long ago lost that list). I called one and it was going to be prohibitively expensive to run the line from the street to our house so I forgot about it. Then, in 2006, I called again . . . thinking I may switch over to gas hot water and add a line to include a grill and fireplace. They would not give me the name of any contractors!!!! I was very very surprised. So evidently they are not even helping out w/ that info anymore.

You need to gt a contractor/plumber to do it and then I think the gas company comes out to do the rest...
I have a lot of buyers who ask for this...my builder will do it... but I do understand why a lot of builders wont. If its not an actual option, its considered a custom option. And at the end of the day, production builders are not custom. Its very costly for a builder to do options that are custom.. HOWEVER, if more and more buyers keep asking, then they will consider making it an option...

For reference, Ryan Homes charged us $350 for the line out to the deck, which also included their returning to complete the hook up to the grill.

I had this done. I called the company that installed the heating in the house and they did it. I can't remember the name but ask the builder who does the heating/ ac installation and they will probably do it if you call them directly. It is expensive.
