I listened to the tapes a few times tonite and this pilot was soooooooo cool the controller didn't get it.
In summary: Hey would you like to land on runway #1 at LGA?

Not sure.
How about runway 4?
Not sure.
What would
you like?
Got anything to the right?
How about Teterboro?
OK
Runway #1?
Cant make it.
Runway #4?
Nope.
WTF do you want?
Think I prefer the Hudson River.
Second controller: Say what?

Listen carefully. Great lesson in listening to the OTHER person talking.

I know, that's just what I was thinking when I heard those! He was so calm and the person on the other end just didn't get that he was gonna land the plane in the river!

The captain said in an interview he might have been collected on the outside, but was extremely nervous inside.
What a class act, the epitome of a hero keeping composure in a time of peril to save that plane full of people.
